Message: Put a Supercharger on the right 4.7 combo and I will take the 4.7 anyday. 4.7's are often running high 14's stock with a blower should be right there. I saw a 5.2 CC auto with a Vortec SC and catback only pull a 14.3 1/4. Put a Kenne Bell on a 4.7 RC 5 speed and it should be well into the 13's. Lightning's are running hi 13's all day stock from what I hear.

Message: The new 2001 Lightning ran a 13.3 in the 1/4 and 0-60 in 5.1 sec. The 99's and 00's run mid to high 13's and a Superchargered 4.7L 5 speed might hang with them. A supercharged R/T that is using a Paxton or other Non-screw blower might be their to. No Dakota with just a blower will touch a 2001. The 2001 made 340 rwhp and over 430lb's of rear wheel torque. I think that if you use a Kenne Belle on an R/T you won't be happy. I heard nothing good about Kenne Belle on the 5.9L from people on DakotaRT.com. The 5.9L already makes lots of torque and the screw blower will just make more. The 5.9L needs some upper rpm pull to take on a Lightning. The 4.7L 5 speed with the New Paxton Novi 1000 should run mid to high 13's. On every Dyno I've seen the Kenne Belle only made about 70-80 rwhp on the 5.9L. The Eaton blower on the Lightning nails off over 120 rwhp. The 5.9L puts down more rwhp in stock form than the 5.4L does. Ford just has an awesome combo right now.

With a couple of more mods he should spank a.... you know. I don't like saying that word! I plan on getting a Paxton NOVI 2000 with 9 PSI myself. I have a blower cam already installed. I already beat the Lightning. I just look forward to bringing more pain.

Ok...to make it easy:
My neighbor (Randy) used to own an R/T. He sold it for a 2000 Lightning...spent $800, and it runs 12.8's all day long. (No nitrous...but if you add Nitrous, it'll easily hit 12-flat.)
Just as a comparison, most who have tried to beat the "L" in a heads up race have spent about $4000 on their trucks just to keep up.
Now look at the list from Sleeper318...that's a lot of mods. (Not that this is a bad thing...like i'm one to talk on that.) ;)
However, the $800 my neighbor spent was on a Pro-M MAF Meter, an oversized K&N Cone, and a "Chip"...that's it - 12.8's all day long.

Message: True enough but that truck is $10,000 more to start with. 10 grand will get the R/T going faster I am sure. It would the 4.7 also when the parts are available. From the posts I have read sound like a whole bunch are coming out by fall. However without forged pistons I am very leary about pushing to hard on this motor. I am also wondering if that composite intake is a weakness as far as boost is concerned. The IAT sensor on that manifold is just a pop in and turn unlike the threaded ones on the 5.2. Anything could go wrong from blowing out the sensors to breaking the manifold. Does anyone know how reliable they are. It also appears that behind the TB the actuall maniflod is quite restrictive and will limit TB size. Just a few things I noticed poundering over what to do next. Probably a 3" in and 3" out main cat and 3" conector to the Y pipe along with some traction work. Also plan relocating the IAT sensor to the front of my intake tube untill I get around to ordering Bernd's. Still am not happy with any PCM solutiions I have seen and can't afford to mail away or mine or get another one custom flashed yet.

Message: I believe the Hemi will debut in 2003 in the Ram.I've heard if will be in the Dskota R/T and another special new model dakota. (Can't remember the name)From every report I've seen the numbers go 354 horsepower and 354lb's of torque. Definitly a stout motor. It should put the R/T's in the 13's, IF Dodge develops a way to get them to hook. The stock 255/55/17's will never do it. Dodge will need a Wide tire on at least a 17" rim and hopefully an 18" rim. The Lightning is just ungodly fast for a truck. I don't believe the Hemi Dakota will be able to match the 2001 Lightning times. The Dakotas might get close to 13.5, but I'd predict closer to 13.7-13.8. This would get them in the running with the 99 and 00 Lightings. The Lightning is built from the ground up as a race truck. The suspension is awesome, as are the Wheels, tires, brakes, engine, and tranny. Dodge puts regular Dakota Brakes behind the R/T and I believe they still will even with the Hemi. The R/T suspension is good, but it could be better. The Tires definitly suck. Dodge has yet to make the R/T a true race truck. If they put big rotors and disc's on it, slap some 18's and big meats, mess with suspension a little and then drop in the Hemi then you will have a ballgame between the L and R/T. Otherwise the R/T will never get really close.
