Message: its not worth the time. when i rebuilt my motor i found out the guy who had it before me did that mod and now after the rebuild my just is no faster than it was. sooo that means it doesnt make enough of a differnece to waste the time on it.

Message: If you don't think advancing your timing 3-5 degrees is a significant change then no it's not worth it. On the other hand people have been making small timing changes for many years and they will tell you that it is worthwhile.
The only way to measure the difference is on a dyno or racetrack. For the little bit of work and zero cost you have nothing to lose by trying it.

Message: When you advance the ignition timing, there is always the risk that you will slightly increase the NOx emissions. If you are marginal to begin with, you could fail. If you are well within limits on each test, you probably will still pass.

Message: Your cat should cover any small increase in NOx, but isn't most areas tests just the OBD2 plug in - ie. no tailpipe sniffer any more?
