Subject: K&N vs. Airaid IP: Logged
Message: which intake is better?? i havent heard anything 'bad' about either, of course K&N is the biggest but its also over 100 dollars more than the airaid
so my question is which is better? K&N Fuel injection performance kit/77 series or Airaid intake?

Message: I have the AirAid full cold air kit, it worked wonders with my 02 4.7. Noticeable mid range and top end power gains.
I also have a K&N on my 98 5.2 4x4 also did wonders for mid to top end power but for a bit more money.

Message: Functionally, I don't think you'll find much differance between the two. Then it becomes an asthetic or financial decision. Buy whichever one looks the best to you, or is cheapest.

Message: whatever you do, if you get a CAI, do not go mudding through any kind of deep water! i have a K&N FIPK gen 2 on my 98 Dak 5.2 and twice now offraoding i have hydro-locked it. i'm lucky in that i haven't messed anything up (at least nothing has shown yet) but it was something i never xpected to happen. i'm going to try and build a shield or something similar to hopefully cut this problem out. just thought i'd give ya a heads up.

Message: Super bee,
Does the add-on plumbing really make a difference?
I understand the theory, but it doesn't make sense where my engine lives, 2,000 RPM.
Modifying my air filter box and running a tube next to the radiator just collects far more dirt faster.
PS, the Amsoil Ea air filter is the best one to stick on the end of your plumbing.

Message: i have an airad on my dak also. Definatly opens things up. Pretty loud, mine wissles a little through 1/4 throttle. I second the comment about being careful when mudding with a cold air intake. Even going out to the desert with mine really did a number on it. I just got the prefilter for it last week to help lengthen the cleaning intervals. I felt like I needed to clean it every time I went offroad .

Message: The gains for this mod are mostly at the upper revs. K&N took quite a while to develop their version for the 4.7, saying the wouldn't release it until they could dyno a gain. As far as I know, they are the only intake manufacturer who claims they will dyno a gain for the 4.7 without other mods. If I cared about upper rpm mods, I'd go with the K&N; but I was more interested in mods that made good torque down low, or throughout the whole range.

Message: The old post, "What is the best intake?" includes some "homebrew" setups for around $100 or less. In most cases, a K&N drop-in or similar is more than adequate on a 4.7.

Message: We've sold K&N for years but I tried the Volant intake on my Dakota. Very impressed. Similar to the old Intense Performance z-tube design. Nice kit.
Not a sales pitch but we do offer it for $199 on the Gen III trucks.

Message: Frog,
Are you sure its the air filter?
Could be bad gas.
I mean, did you actually try with both filters and can actually say that it is, in fact, the K&N filter?
Just curious. It would just be the first time I've heard that about a K&N filter. Maybe your throttle body needs a good cleaning?
I'm really not trying to be a prick, its just, like I said, first time I heard that about a filter, unless it was dirty. Or maybe its got too much oil on it, and its choking the engine.

Message: Either one will have similar effects as far as performance gains i would just go with K&N because of the name. But if you want the best possible intake i say go with the aFe intake i just put one on my 99' 5.2L and i love it and saw a pretty good performance change
