Subject: HO cam Swap IP: Logged
Message: Hello everyone,
I saw a HO magnum cam swap for about 250 bucks, brand new. I have a 04 Dakota 285ci. Would swapping the cam hurt my gas mileage provided I do drive sensibly? And would this require the use of premium fuel? Thanks for your replies!!

Message: Do you mean the 4.7 ? I put the jeep HO cams in mine, didn't hurt milage; no need for higher octane. Typically it is higher compression or more ignition advance that can need higher octane; not a cam swap.

Message: yeah the 4.7L did you have to do any other mods once you swapped cams? i.e. platinum spark plugs, injector swap, etc... I was looking to increase power without going too crazy....budget is kinda limited....nice Gen Patton quote by the way

Message: Just the cams for low end, a chip or flash that advances the 4.7 ignition would also help across all rpm.

Message: the 4.7 is a 287ci.
If you have a quyote for HO cams, cams AND LABOR, go for it. the cams themselves are now about the price.
Having all these many of these mods myself, I agree with the advice given.
