Big scam - probably just a vent blower motor for a boat; not enough airflow. It might build 1.3 psi in a static test, but I'll bet it doesn't while trying to feed air to a running motor.

you gotta wonder whats next?

i can remember pills you dropped in the tank,
magnets you attached to the fuel line,
blade contraptions of some sort you put in the breather assembly, now these

did i miss any?

josh one thing to consider the big auto makers would love nothing more then to sell more units
what helps sell? sticker numbers
and if any of these simple (drop in or screw on) things really worked Detroit would have been putting them to use

Big scam. Check out a marine supply web site, and look for a bilge vent fan. It's the same thing.

Do the math. A 4.7L engine moves 4,700 liters of air every minute at 2,000 rpm's. That's about 165 cubic feet. Then you have to double that, and create pressure. Not going to happen with a simple fan.

An electric sc has been experimented with many times over the years. Just not cost effective. You have to produce so much electricity that it negates any value of the increased pressure.

Yeas ago there was a guy that came through town once or twice a year selling a gadget thet improved power and fuel milage. He sold these like hot cakes cause his demistration on his own car was very convincing to the average person with no motor knowledge. These things sold for 20 bucks And I could stand there and watch him sell dozens and dozens, probably a couple hundred a day. It amounted to a brass T that fit close to the intake in a vacumn line. the leg with nothing conected to it had a small hole. obviously this caused a vacumn leak and consiquently the engine idled faster. He would remove it and install a streight hose connecter and the idle slowed back to normal. The guys eat this up convinced this gaget actually was doing something. Just thought I'd mention this scam from days gone by. Bet it comes back one day lol

So many problems .... So little time

What if they strapped a fuel cell that would recharge just like all these new hybrids. Lithium Ion batteries create some serious power. I wouldn't be suprised if some automaker introduced a small electric supercharger in the next 5 years.

The best electric supercharge I have found is thomas knights but it is not nearly big enough for a 4.7. As far as i can tell it would not be to bad for a small 4 cyl engine maybe even a 6 but it is still not cost efficient.
As alec said with the new hybrids and new battery technology I dont think it will be to long before they come up with one that could power some larger engines. I looked up the prius battery specs not to long ago and with the right electric motor im sure it could pump out some pretty serious boost. I also found some papers from visteon and there was some other german company who proved it was possible but still expensive.
The price may not be to bad though because a regular supercharger or turbo puts more stress on the engine than an electric s/c would. A regular S/C or turbo uses hp to make boost but electic will not.

Speaking of electric motors.
There is a guy who runs a home made electric rail at Speedworld Raceway out here by me.

It does 12 sec and better 1/4 mile. I figured it had a bunch of BIG batteries in it like golf carts.
Nope. Someone told me there was like over 100 CELL PHONE/LAPTOP batteries in it powering them motors! Lithiom-Ion.
I may have a few of the details messed up but it is something like that.

Anyway. My neighbor acrossed the street was showing me something broken on his car one day and I noticed his nice ELECTRIC SUPERCHARGER!

I could not stop from giggling as I pulled out my camera phone!

Assuming Mark still has the html off, you will have to copy and paste that into your browser. Check out them pictures of that electic SC. He said he THOUGHT it may have been noticable at lower speeds, but didn't do anything at WOT LOL!

Big Dak - you seem to have missed the point of boB's post. I think there is a typo in boB's post, but the math is actually on the low side. A 4.7 liter motor will move 4.7 liters of air per revolution, so if it was only 1000 rpm, it would move 4700 liters a minute; assuming full efficiency. Depending on design and rpm, many motors do move air near peak efficiency; and when they are at an rpm where the exhaust pulse is working well to scavenge the chamber and draw incoming charge they can actually move a little more air than that. That means about 9400 liters a minute at 2000 rpm. The air required to be pressurized becomes much larger as rpms continue to build. Now do you see how much air one of these devices would have to move to work ?

A four stroke engine moves it's displacement every two revolutions. 4.7L every two revs. 2000 rpm's = 4,700L (166 ft3) per minute; 9,400L (332 ft3) at 4,000 rpm's.

To pressurize the intake enough to make power, you'de have to move about 1.5 times that. And you have to do it under pressure. Although moving 500cfm isn't that difficult, there's no way a simple fan can make pressure.

sure there is
just put a few drops of that "miracle"
SPAMSOIL on it!
it works wonders!
makes fuel pumps last to over 500,000

and also works wonders on brakes!
over 500,000 miles on them too

When we are talking about a rip off electric blower, it is generally OBVIOUS that it is a scam.

But it makes no sense at all that people come in here and talk crap about Amsoil which has been around for years. Everyone has their own opinion and it is typical for people to stick with something and be loyal. If you like another brand, stick with it if you prefer. Talking crap just starts an never ending argument. Ppl have to be totally ignorant to make stupid posts like that.
It's probably someone who doesn't even drive yet. Maybe found the forum in a search one day on mommies computer while looking for something to spank themselves with?

Unfortunatly there are alot of kids that think they know everything about everything because their friend put a turbo on his civic and he said amsoil was junk. Automaticly stupid people believe what there told and feel the need to tell everybody that they are right and everybody else is wrong. IMO if you want to flame something you better be able to back it up with solid facts. I think what really ticked me off was this moron jumped into a really well thought out technical post and put his idiotic 2 cents in. By the way moron any simple fan can make pressure if it has enough power. There are more effiecint ways to make boost though.
