Message: I have a 97 4x4 with a 5.4 will it make much difference if i cut the cat off and buy one of those electronic o2 sensors and install it.

Message: It will make you a felon, subject to a $2,500 fine. It will give you virtually no power increase, but will increase HC emissions tenfold.
Never heard of a Chrysler 5.4 engine.

Message: Right, must be the 5.2L. Anyways, if your cat is plugged, you will definatly see gains. Your truck is old enough to replace the CAT if you choose.
Your best bet is to get a "high flow" cat, and a rear o2 simulator. Bob is right, you would be a felon if you completely removed it. I wouldn't worry about that as much as not being able to pass inspection at any place that pays attention. Even if your state doesn't require an emmission check, they can still fail you, or knock you some huge $$ to replace it.

Message: As ' crow318 says , and replace the muffler while you are at it, any replacement other than Chrysler is less restrictive...
