Subject: fast/surging idle IP: Logged
Message: problem started about a year ago with surging out of overdrive at highway speeds..has gotten worse until now it surges up to 1200-1500 from usual 600-800 at idle. Seems to always surge now and is getting worse. I had it checked out once and Midas said the error code was "undefined". CEL is on, it has intake, HO cams, exhaust on it and 72000 miles. Any help would be appreciated!

Message: Some things you may want to check: Throttle Position Sensor, Idle Air Control valve on the throttle body (if it is doing it while driving through, I doubt this is it), or perhaps even the battery is getting funky. From what you describe though, it does sound typical of a Throttle Position Sensor going out. Mine started surging up to 2000 RPMS at idle from 600rpms before I replaced it. If you have a 4.7L, you can pick one up at Advance Autoparts for around $30. I'm not sure how much they cost for the 3.9L/5.2L/5.9L. Hope this helps!

Probably the TPS. I had no fault codes, but same symptoms, and it cleared up immediately upon replacing TPS.
