I have a 00 4.7 dakota QC. I just returned from the parts store after going to get 3923's. While there, I just told the guy I need plugs for a 00 4.7 dakota. He looked them up and told me number 5442's or something. I was wondering about the 3923's, so I had him get the book out. Everything was the same between the two of them except the tip and length of electrode. I told him I wanted the 3923's and this guy went off on me!!!! Told me I was an idiot, had no idea what I was talking about, that they wouldn't work and were going to ruin my engine!!!! I felt like socking the guy, but held back. Ok now for the question. Are they OK for the 4.7???? Now this idiot has me wondering. Will they work OK?? What are your experiances? Thanks again.

In MY truck, they produced a rough idle and lack of off-idle torque. They also appeared to hurt my fuel mileage some also. I seriously doubt they will hurt your engine. Give'm a try! They don't cost that much and don't take that long to install.

Now for the big question.....why did you want the 3923s?

I wanted to try the 3923's because of all the posts I saw on here saying they improve performance and can also cause idle to smooth out. Hmmm.... That wasn't the answer I expected, now I really don't know if I should install. Thanks for your experiance Duner.

You're welcome Chad. I'm currently running the stock - spec 5224s. When I pulled out my original Champions, they were gone. They looked like I had driven 100K miles on them and it was only at 14K or so. The gaps were anywhere from .080" to .100". The center electrode was almost burned off. When I tried the 3923s they came out somewhat sooty. With the 5224s, they come out clean. With all the plugs I have been running the stock spec gap of .040".

I tried the 3923s in my 4.7. I didn't really like the way it ran, just felt different. I've heard of people having success but I think they were using a different gap than factory. I didn't know how to go about tunning that, so I just put the old champions back in. They were in pretty good shape.

I use the 3923`s 40 tho gap and no probs yet,hasnt done the little stumble that it used to before sometimes when it got really hot,also did the 180 t-stat but the plug change was a couple weeks before that,you shouldnnt have any probs with them

I just put the 3923's in both my 4.7 and 5.2 this past weekend. Combined with new intake's, they really woke both engines up. 5.2 has a really nice low end feel and the 4.7 feels really stronger. Even changed the way the exhaust sounds on the 4.7. I really like the plugs.

The reason the parts guy was so concerned is because of how serious the dammage can be from putting too hot of a plug in your engine. It is always safe to go one to to ranges cooler but sometime going one heat range hotter can blow an engine. Two heat ranges hotter will almost always kill an engine in the long run. He probably does not know what heat range you engine needs other then what the book tells him. It is probably against his stores policy to allow him to help you modify your vechile from stock specs for liabilty reasons. I set right next to the A/C Delco internet responce Techs. and the GM Goodwrench Techs. responce team. I hear all of the problems encontered buy people putting the wrong plug in. I am sure that that sale guy was not trying to be a jerk to you he was probably just frustrated. I am glad that they are working well for you. Once my truck has a few more miles I am going to try double platniums. I am lazy and hate to change plugs every 30,000 miles.

Thanks for the support Sandman. Actually though, when we looked in the book, he said the 3923's actually burn cooler then the stock plugs, so I think I am safe there, and by how many people here use them I think it will be ok. Thanks again

I didn't think a preignition ping was at all common with the 4.7 Cybewolfe. DC retarded the piss out of our engines to avoid this. The ping is commom place with the 5.2 and 5.9. My old 5.2 pinged like an SOB if the rev's were to low.

Surferpug, I don't think you can use MSD wires in the 4.7, they have the little coils on top of each plug and do not have a distributer or plug wires. It has distributerless ignition.

I have been running the 3923's for 9 months 20K. The original plugs were toast after about 15K. I checked the 3923's after 10K or so and they look fine. .04 gap was still right on. Like um fine.

Pre ignition ping is a problem with the 4.7. I had to do research when I noticed mine does it. I just run 93 octane and it does fine but with todays engines you should not have to run higher octane.
