Subject: Damn Truck... Help Needed IP: Logged
Message: Why do I need a new belt every four months? WTF? I've had the belt replaced several times, and it just starts to squeak like crazy a few months later. Last time, I had the alternator and a loose pulley replaced in December. It's April now, and the squeaking came back, despite the fact that I thought I had fixed the problem. WTF. Why is my truck chewing through belts like crazy? Oh, I also had a new belt tensioner installed. plain

Message: The tensioner should have fixed it. They wear out at the pivot and that throws it out of alignment. Shouldn't kill the belt though, I've gone tens of thousands of miles that way.
The only other thing is what toolfan said.
NEVER use belt dressing. Makes the belt squeek!
Once your problem is fixed, leave it alone. It will be fine when the truck is in the junkyard, whenever that is.

Message: Sounds to me like one of your pulley's is out of alighnment. Maybe the power steering pulley was pressed on to far or something got left off during a parts change. Check the alighnment and you should find the culprit.

Message: Something else to keep in mind is a damaged pulley something with a slight bend or ding possibly from previous work. visually inspect each pulley you may find something. Also while you are checking the pullies look for "belt piling" this is a build up of materials from serp belts as the run through the pullies. The material builds up usually in the grooves and will be visible. this will cause a belt slip and noise. If so just clean with wire brush and brake clean.
