WIth tax and shipping it's like $880 or so. But that's WITH the basic install kits and the Auburn LSD for my rear anti lock brakes set up.
So far I still had no tracking number last night. I hope that's not bad news, like back order... :(

Message: They should be pretty even in many cases. The 4.7 more efficient in size. It also has a longer powerband. i.e. stock 4.7 pulls to 6k RPM's. 1k MORE than a 318
I LIKE the high revs personally. And it still makes a butt load of power before 2k RPM's contrary to what you WOULD think.
It WILL rip the tires loose, and keep spinning sometimes.
If this was in a 2WD RC I couldn't imagine it EVER being able to move without smoking the tires as hard as it is NOT to spin silly in my 5,000 Lb brick of a QC 4X4 :)

Message: Does anybody have the 4:56 on a manual tranny? Seems like 1st would be useless on stock tires. I have LT285/75/16 on my 5-speed, just can't decide between the 4:10 or 4:56 ratio.

Message: with 4.56, 5 speed and a 29inch (stock) tire you'd be pulling 2747rpm at 65 in 5th. a little much. your first 3 gears would be really short. i'd say 3.92 or maybe 4.10 in a 5speed if youre running stock or nearly stock tires, even then you're gonna be revving plenty. i've got 4.10 in my 4sp auto and its just about perfect for 75mph freeway speeds and city driving with OD off.

Message: With my .67 OD ratio on my auto and the 29" tires I should only be at 2362 RPM's at 65MPH running the 4.56 gears! Not bad I think. More into the torque of the 4.7 I think.
And about 2900 RPM's at 80MPH. But I really wont be towing at 80MPH. 75 max on the highway IF I decide to go 75 when towing.

Message: No doubt. I wouldn't even second guess the 4.56 on 33's one bit!
My bro in law has 4.10's running 33's. He wants to drop his tire size a few inches now. His 33's with 4.10's is like my 29's and 3.55's now. Not good enough :p

Message: Cool, looks like the 4:56 is the way to go. Graph, what brand did you settle on, Yukon or Motive? I also saw where a speedo recalibration cable was offered for the front and rear, is this necessary? or will my superchips take care of this? Since there is no way in hell I would attempt this install, anyone have a guess what a reputable shop that stood behind their work would charge?

Message: 01 4.7, 5speed manual, LSD 2 wd.
I have a 3.55, and still wanated a functional 1st gear with my manual.
So I picked up some 3.92's out of an RT,
for $80.00 shipped, will install myself soon.
That should go nicely with my other minor mods.
4.7, manual, 3.55, LSD, tire and handling pack, HO cams and intake, home brew 'true' CAI, ported my 68mmTB, NO belt driven clutch or fan, NO third cat, water heater bypass (for colder a/c), 3923's. Super chips tuner (on 87 octane now).
Dyno w/ above on 87 octane - 223 RWHP 292RWTQ
The way I drive it, No short belts bypassing a/c, etc.
Soon: 3.92, and true duals after the pre cats.
Toying with the Turbo by the rear tire idea, good idea-for $ savings.

Message: for I Wonder: i think Motive are cheaper. They'll cost you $180-200 for 2WD, double that for 4WD. Installation could run additional $400-600.
As for speed calibration - I guess you didn't adjust it when you switched to 33" tires, so w/ new gear you could be close to original.

Message: I got the Motive gears and the Auburn LSD. With insall kits and shipping $880
Will be doing myself. I'm sure it would be near $800 more for some shop to do them. I'll be doing mine at home. Expect pictures of at least the REAR gear/LSD swap by the end of this week :)
I also believe you do NOT have to change any thing for the speed when doing gears since it takes the speed sensor off of the ring gear which will STILL be moving at the same rate as the tires.
Now changing TIRE SIZE will require the speedo calibration. Which can be done with the SuperChips. :)

Message: Thanks for the replies, I am leaning toward the Yukons with the Auburn lsd. I will start checking shops before buying as I also need to find the difference between the minor and major install kits. And, yes, after searching other posts, my speedo is good to go with my 33s already with my superchips. 2 years on 33s with my open 3:55, hopefully it will be merry x-mas for me.

Message: Other than stock LSD, its the carrier bearings that many consider to be the weak link in the 9 1/4 rear - that's why I chose to go with the installation kit (major) that includes that. Figured might as well freshen that up while it was open.
Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Message: I was going to say the full kit included bearings. I didn't get them as I only have 35k miles.
It's weird hearing pppl talk about changing bearings so early in rear axles. That's one component that usually goes a couple 100k miles with only fluid changes. :p
I'd be bummed if this 9 1/4 doesn't go the same!

Message: They should have. I'm finishing up a call in Phoenix right now and I think I have one more call to go do before I go home.
I'll call my kids in a bit after they get off from school and see if it's left on the front porch like I instructed.
