I've heard different things on this topic so wanted to post here to see what the deal is. If I have a K&N air filter in my 2001 Dak with the 4.7L Auto will drilling holes in the lid on the air box actually do anything?

thanks for any info.

if you drilled holes in the lid of the airbox, wouldn't it suck in unfiltered air? NOT GOOD!

DON'T - that would let warm air in
engine wants cool air for best operation..

On the 4.7, the top of filter box, would be on top of the rectangular filter element, still giving the engine filtered air, but ohhh, that would let in engine compartment air, not the best alternative.

You are wrong Texas Todd. Drilling holes in the top of the 4.7 filter box will definitely pull in unfiltered air. If you put holes in the bottom of the box, you would get filterd air. Either way, not a good choice.
