Subject: Average 0 - 60 times IP: Logged
Message: what would the average 0 - 60 time be for a 2001 Dakota Club Cab 4x4 5-speed with 3.55 gears, and a 4.7L V8?
just asking, I just want a rough estimate of average times.
and, how much of an increase will HO cams, Intake, Headers, and Throttle Body give me, with 0-60 time.
please respond honestly, that is all I ask.

Message: no one has replied to your post... because, quite simply... who gives a rats ass about 0-60? car and driver maybe... but who of us cares about them?... truth be told:
there is no universal way to measure 0-60 and have one figure be comparable to the next. 'tis why 'most' of us use 1/4 or at least 1/8 mile figures....

Message: I give a rats ass. well, a rats ass is kinda smelly, but I care, and so should MOST drag racers, since take off and initial acceleration determines that finish line time...
the best test is to try it out. at least the second part of what that first response has said is true, theres no real way to time it effectively, and its going to differ so greatly from vehicle to vehicle, the track is the only way you're going to get any good measurements... but most give a breakdown of your speeds not only at quatermile, but also for 100 feet too, if I'm remembering correctly... its been a while since I've been to the track.
Hell, trying to time 0-60 with a stop watch is insane hard, especially on the highway... I've launched from the shoulder, on an empty highway, and come up with times from 6.5 to 8.0 in my r/T, but thats a bit different than your's, and even those are too variated to be believable... too many factors to calculate into effect, like start time, end time, actual speed... the list goes on and on...

thats what the 60 foot cone is for...
"take off" doesnt matter one lick as far as ET goes... you could sit at the green light for 5 minutes and still come out with the EXACT same time as if you were to hit a .500

a 2005 Quad Cab Auto 4x4, with a 4.7L HO gets 0 - 60 in 8.6 seconds.
considering mine is a Club Cab 5-speed, with a 4.7L with a few mods, like cams, intake, tb, headers, exaust, I may be looking at about 7 - 7.5 0-60 with my smaller tires.

Message: Joe, why don't you get yourself a stop watch, do several runs and take an average. Most any information you get from anyone else is going to be subject to many variables.
Contrary to what some others think, 0-60 is of interest to many people. There are far more people accellerating from 0-60 on a daily bases than from 0-100.
For me the nearest 1/8 or 1/4 mile track is 100 miles away. If I make any serious changes I do a few 0-60 runs to see if I've made a noticable change. There are some obvious, or maybe not so obvious, problems. The biggest problem is how long you spin your tires. A vehicle that is a bit slow at 0-60 could easily do well in a 1/4 mile. Again, lots of variables.

That's because it's kill or BE killed getting in traffic that's moving around here.
Having a GOOD 0 to 60 is a GOOD thing :)

Message: 0 to 60 is my best reference.
From 0 to 60, you have a taste of tork, hp, clutch condition, time advance, and driver`s skills.
The 1/4 mile is more forgiving on driver`s errors, if you have a better engine to make up.
On 0 to 60, there is no time to overcome from a mistake.
