Im about to make mine and wandering what others have used. Im thinking 3in black abs. Also, ive seen bent exhaust intakes. Wouldn't this absorb more engine heat? If anyone has pics that would be awesome! Post or send them to me! And for the K&N filter on 3in tubing, anyone have a part number! THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!

I used 3" pvc with a cone filter on the end, pretty straight forward as you can see in the pic. I used a 3" fernco plumbing adapter to attach the filter to the piping and another random 3" plumbing accesory to attach the piping to the airhat.

As far as whether or not to use PVC, ABS, exhaust tubing, etc....in the end it really won't matter. Although each different material will transfer (gain or lose) heat at a different rate, they will all reach the same ambient temperature in the long tun. Once the temp in your engine comparment reaches a certain temp, whether it's PVC or exhaust tubing it will reach that same temp, no less no more. PVC will get warm slower and cool down faster, but it will reach the same temp as a metal product in the long run.

One better...I used 3" ABS, about a 15" straight piece to an 90 degree elbow with an 10" straight piece to an 3" closet flange. I drilled an 3" hole in front of the passenger wheelwell, then another 3" closet flange on the bottom side, then installed an K&N RE-0910 filter(3" inlet by 8" tall). Now I have total fresh air from outside that hot engine compartment. The system looks almost factory..wish I had a digital camera for pics! I used the factory rubber hose to connect to the first ABS piece. Also applied a thick layer of silicone on both sides of the closet flanges. Total cost was $55.

I wasted money on an Airaid intake when I shoulda just built it myself. I still have the metal guard for it and the filter that sit on top of my stock air box, but I replaced that big ol "air hat" on the throttle body with PVC pipe. Still gotta paint it though. No one around me sells ABS pipe anymore. Oh well.

what size engine do you have? forget about going down to home depot, buying and glueing togather all that crappy looking plumbing and being the laughingstock anytime you have to open your hood. spend 40 bucks for something like this, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7967873808&category=38634
or this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7967843601&category=38634
and then another 20 or so bucks on a good K&N filter, also from eBay, and for 60 or so bucks you'll have just as good looking and probably as good performing an intake as one of those $200-250 systems that Airaid, AEM, Intense Performance would be more then happy to have you bend over for...

Yeah, get one of those off ebay that sits directly in the middle of your engine compartment and will suck in all the hot air your fan is throwing at it. That intake is worse than the stock airbox I bet.

Make one that either set outside of the engine compartment, or like mine that is right on the front and then remove the plastic flap beside the radiator and make some kind of a heat shield (although in my pic there isn't one I can insure that there is now.)
