Subject: Heart-throb Exhause; Any Thoughts? IP: Logged
Message: I'm looking to get a new exhaust for my 2003 4.7 QC 4x4. I'd like a single in dual out and saw on jcwhitney a Hearthrob system that was only $230. I could get a custom exhaust done with a flowmaster muffler for about $350 but figured I'd save the money for something else. Does anyone know anything about these Hearthrob systems? How do they sound? Do they do anything for your performance?

Message: Chris: Bought H'throb from JCW for 01DakQC-catback
w/single n,dual 2.5 out. Quality SEEMED good-turbo
was nicely welded & pipes mandel bent as adv. Unfortunately JCW sent kit for Ford, so didnt get chance to install. After further research, am now ordering the HT straight thru w/ muffs at the tailpipes. Reason?: the turbo (although) straight thru, would still disrupt the eshaust pulse(not flow, PULSE).Am installing 30" glaspak & putting splitter on backend4duals.May or not use tailmuffs

Message: I ordered my hearthrob exhaust directly from the owner of the company- mike forbes. Seemed like a good guy. However- the design of the kit for my truck (2001 dakota) is wrong. Ironically the driver side tailpipe fit real well and it was the passenger side tailpipe that will not work. It wants to make the exit end up in the wheel well. I tried to explain to Mike that if the driver side runs just under the frame rail, so should the passenger side. He told me I could send the kit back to him and he would refund what I paid for the kit and my shipping both ways if the kit was wrong. Well it turned out since his design was wrong but the kit he sent me was the same as the sample he pulled, he only reimbursed me for the price of the kit. The design is wrong and it will take fabrication to make it fit. period. All he needed to do was admit this and I would have cut and welded it instead of thinking I'd get all my money back.

Message: Randy, have you had any further communication w/ Heartthrob? Surely such a gross error on their part would be known by others who have ordered same for their Daks...
Still waiting for JCW to send repl HT kit...
look for update posting soon as I can get the system hung.

Message: The majority of the communications I've had with the company were through email. I only called him to give him my payment information and then again to initially advise him of the fitment problem. Then we just went back and forth with emails, me sending him pictures and such. After it was all said and done and it was clear that he was refusing to reimburse any of my shipping costs i wrote him a nasty email pointing out how he misled me and how if I had known I was going to be spending upwards of $60 and be left with no exhaust whatsoever, I would have spent the money to alter the pipe so it would fit. He never replied, that was the last I heard of him. Judgeing by the pictures he sent me of the kit installed on a truck at his facility, there is more than one rear suspension configuration for these trucks, either that or the 99 that he designed it for has a different suspension than my 2001. Mine is a 2wd with the axle mounted over the leaf springs. He told me, and advertises that it will fit my truck. I just don't think they did their homework when they made the design, and just assumed all models were set up like the one they built it for. This tends to happen sometimes with smaller companies. I am just dissapointed with the way he handled the issue.
