Message: I know it hasn't been out long but I'm just curious if anyone has had any problems with there trucks and the superchips tuner for the 4.7L?
I really want one but I don't want to have issues with my truck if I do, do it.
I would appreciate the feedback
Thanks

Message: I had HUGE problems with the tuner.
I can no longer keep my foot off the accelerator. I no longer take my lunch to work, just so I can drive home during my break. The rear tires are also taking a beating. They just can't seem to hold the road with all the torque.
Honestly, the only problem I have is with the $.18 difference between premium and regular gas. The performance program of the Superchips requires 93 octane.

Message: those aren't the problems I was talking about but that helps, in a different way.
The type of problems I am talking about transmission, engine problems.

Message: my tuner gave the error "tuner requires an update" I don't really know what to do about this yet. I emailed SuperChips, and they haven't responded yet. I imagine that I will have to get the reciept from SoCal motorsports (where i bought it) and ship the tuner to superchips HQ to get it updated... grrrrrrr!

Message: daffydak, you can call SC, but they do not have a toll-free number.
You will need the invoice, and you will need to return it and the tuner to Superchips. Before you do that, you'll need an RMA number from Superchips. Make sure to include the shipping cost receipt in the return and SC will reimburse you for the shipping cost (up to $25).
I went through two return iterations with SC. The first was for the "update" problem, then a big delay on the return of the tuner as they apparently _lost_ it. Then it had to be returned a second time due to a "Tuner requires emulation tests" error.
The tuner does work, but I am not impressed with the hoops they make _you_ jump through to allow _them_ to fix their problems.

Message: I have a 4.7L tuner from Superchips that worked right out of the box......but then again I was a test truck donor for them also.
I gave them a 2000 Dakota Club Cab with 102,000 miles and a full tank of 87 octane gas (this truck would not even spin the tires unless the road was wet and I was power braking it), they gave me an all day rental Jeep Liberty in return. At the end of the day when I came back to get my truck, they said they found some detonation problems on the older trucks running the 87 octane....hence the 87 octane program that is offered on the tuner.
When my tuner arrived at the house, I waited 2 days to load any programs due to conflicting work schedule but did make it a point to fill up with 91 octane that same day so I knew I'd have all the 87 out of the system by the time I managed to upload it.
Upload day:
Hooked it up and followed the on-screen instructions and got my performance program loaded with no problems at all. Took it out to the backside of our local airport where I stopped in the middle of the road. Nailed gas pedal to the floor after taking foot off brake.....15' or so later the tires stopped spinning but I was still stuck against the back of the seat. Enough said, I was happy. I found the truck I had originally bought.
About 2 weeks later, I had a catering job to do and would be transporting around 200-300 lbs of coolers, burners; and so on in my bed so I figured why not upload the "Performance/Towing" program. I was running 93 octane by then. I found a lot more low-end torque along with the regular performance power I saw when first loading the regular performance program. I also observed that my gas gauge needle seemed a lot heavier when I was in it. Serious gas hog on the towing/performance if you stay in the gas too long but worth it if you’re moving some serious weight and still want the truck to get out of its own way.

Message: Not sure if I was clear, but once the tuner did load, it did what it was supposed to do. It dropped my 1/4 times by about .4 sec (according to the G-tech), fixed my low idle problem, and actually allowed some scratch to happen while turning on a wet road <- which is an improvement for an 02 QC AWD.

Message: under wot sometimes my truck shifts at 4500 rpm instead of 5400 like it did stock. what gives, it's not consistant but usually happens flooring from a stop as opposed to from a roll. sometimes when i go to pass it does that too. won't downshift if it wasn't going to be under 4500.
performance seems better and actually i'm very used to the added power now.

Message: I have the same problem as jason, with shifting early. It doesn't always happen, but gets annoying. When it shifts, it is almost bogged down for a moment, then is good. Also is second gear it will whine out then shift when cold. it won't shift when it generally does. But other than that, it's nice.
