Just bot a 2000 Dakota Quad Cab 4.7. Looked at the exhaust system and appears way crowded for a dual catback setup. It has the stock muffler now. Would I get performance out of just installing a Flowmaster muffler? Any recommendations? I'm not a major wrench - a coupla 327 Chevy and one 400 70 GTO rebuilds about 200 years ago. Looking for mild performance increases. Superchip or Hyper comments? Thanks. I was really happy to find this place. sam

A Flomaster Delta 40 helped mine out a lot but then again I also went with duals out the back from the Delta 40.

There are a number of other mods you can do to increase your 4.7L's performance;
Autolite 3923 sparkplugs
180* Thermostat
Cold Air Intake
Aftermarket or bored out Throttle Body
HO Cams
and a few others.

Do a search on here for mods as there are numerous posts from people like you who are interested and even more replies from people who have already copleted some if not all of those mods.

Superchips is just now beginning to release a tuner for the 4.7L motor but it may be a month or so before you can actually get your hands on one due to the apparent large numbers of group buys already in place.

I was a tester for Superchips and am supposed to get a tuner from free for donating my vehicle and we are supposed to get them first from what I understand yet only a small number of us have actually received them as of today. I spoke with Ken at Superchips and he says they are stepping up production on them and hope to have most of us supplied by Xmas with the general public following shortly thereafter.

Welcome to the wonderful....uhhhh...yea wonderful world of owning a Dakota. Now go have your upper ball joints checked out by a goooooood mechanic and check your floorboards (especially under the passenger side carpet) for water.

Theres a recall on upper Ball Joints in case you haven't been watching TV or reading all the posts here.

HO cams ranks high on that list - should be pretty easy for you if you've done some rebuilds before; good tips here if you do a search like Izzy suggests. The 4.7 loves more ignition advance, wether you get it from a chip or a flash.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way
