Subject: not another mpg question IP: Logged
Message: I just have a quick question pertaining to mpg on average. I currently have a 01 dakota CC with the 4.7ltr engine. gas mileage is ok considering what it is (v-8,truck,heavy etc) I'm not complaining about that. My question pertains to mpg difference between a cc dakota and a quad cab dakota both 4x4 with the 4.7ltr engine. I need to upgrade to more room and a qc is an idea i'm throwing around. What kind of mpg do you guys get on average stock? city? highway? Being that i'm looking for a used one (01-04) I cant rely on a salesman to give me any accurate info, If so the cc would get 20mpg and the qc would get 1 mpg less. Thanks

Message: well don't start at 20, but i'd bet on the 1 mpg less. what do you get now, subtract 1
do you NEED 4x4 on your next truck?
you'd end up gaining one even with the bigger truck instead of losing one. faster too

Message: Yeah I know 20 was an exageration, but for the most part they tell you what they think you want to hear not whats actually the truth.
I average 15.5mpg during the week...
4X4 is not required, but something that I feel I would like to keep. When I had my durango there really wasnt any snow that winter or the winter afterwards so I never really got to see the potential. but after seeking out the snow this past winter, driving in 2wd and 4wd just to get some experience and comparison I feel that 4wd will be a benifit for me.
Also the durango wasn't a daily driver (fam vehicle) and my dakota is and the next vehicle I get will also be a daily driver. With the commute last winter I wouldn't want to do it again without 4wd. I don't know how I did it when all I had was a fwd car..oh yeah i didn't

Message: If I do 70 I can get up to 17 mpg, if I do 80 I get about 15. It just clicked over 3000 miles last night so being that it's broken in it may get a little better.

Message: I've got an '02 4.7 QC auto with 3.55 gears, 2wd.
Strict city driving, to and from work, I got about 14-15 mpg.
Now that I changed jobs, I drive a lot of freeway, and average 18, driving 70-75.
I've gotten a little over 21 on STRICT highway cruising, at 70 or under.......hard to do, you'll have to baby it.
Mods are, K&N FIPK2 intake, Amsoil motor oil, Amsoil trans fluid, Amsoil gear lube, Amsoil ATF in power steering.
Those mods help a bit. The exhaust is stock for now.
