Hoping for some help!!

I have a 93 Dakota Extended Cab, 260,000 km v6 manuel trans. There are no powertrain or elctrical issues with this unit.

I have one of those "400W Mobile Power Inverters" It's the kind that you plug into the cig lighter and it delivers 110 to an electrical appliance, like a drill or sander etc. I use it when I haven't got an electrical outlet handy.

This is real handy for outside projects, anyway, I plugged it into my cig lighter and started the truck to give a steady power supply to the inverter and "POP" the power failed.

The cigarette lighter wouldn't put out power. Naturally I thought it was the fuse so I checked but the fuse was fine. The lighter is connected according to the "Chassis Electrical System" chart to the air conditioner, radio, etc. All these items are functioning properly but, the problem still remains, no power to and obviously from the lighter outlet, ( yes i checked with a meter)So I was wondering is there an inline fuse hidden in the dash somewhere or some other metering method/gadget that I don't know about or has some other event occured that I'm not looking for? If any one can help PLEASE send me your thoughts on theis problem.

check and see if it has a bad connection at the back.. broken wires etc.. i think on my 92 its tied in with the stock radio/tape deck. not sure thou.. if the fuse is fine.. check and see if u have power after the fuse up threw the wire.. and find out were the power stops.. it also could be a bad ground

are you sure that there is no power at the outlet? It sounds as though you are assuming that there is because other things on the circut are functioning. Those inverters "cut-out" when the load is too great. Does it light when put in w/o anything connected to it, but then not power the appliance? A power drill is too much of a load for a 400watt inverter btw.

Yup I checked the lighter with a meter and all the fuses with a meter as well, interestingly the lighter has no juice but everything else on the circuit works fine! I'm stumped!! It must be a fried wire between the fuse box and the lighter, I have pulled out the lighter and checked the powr wire that plugs into the back of it and there is no current so I guess I'm gonna have to trace the wire back to the point where I have juice!! Glad to accept any other suggestions. The Haynes manuel wiring diagram SUCKS!!! it's incorrect, for those who are thinking of buying one, Chilton is a million times more accurate and illustrative. Not going to make that mistake again.

Thanks everyone for your assistance guess what I gotta do today?
