Subject: A quick Question on Mopar PCM??? IP: Logged
Message: I know these things are truly badass but
Would it be better leaving it stock for now and
adding that upgrade and would it still be a
power difference or do i need to modify before
putting the PCM on.
Another question is does my gas mileage go
up? I do know i have to get the most expensive
gas but will i get better gas mileage to
compensate for that?
Thanks!
Mike

Message: I did the cold air, throttle body, headers and cat back, then I did the computer(Kenne Bell Optimizer II).
I think if you did the computer first, it wouldn't be able to take advantage of the flow improvement the other parts offer.
As for mileage. Driving "normally" I get around 16mpg city. But, I can't keep from kicking that thing in the guts so I'm getting around 13.8mpg city.
Sounds sweet, love that intake roar.

Message: Hey Mike
Is your truck a 5.9/5.2/4.7?? The Mopar pcm adds a little extra timing(hence the premium fuel) and raises tranny shift points slightly.
It by itself will not drastically alter performance. But you will notice slightly better performance. It will not increase gas mileage- at least as far as I can tell and Ive had mine for 3 1/2 years.
When you replace the manifolds with headers(5.9/5.2), add a cai,etc... the pcm will work very well with bolt-ons. Just try not to let the dealer techs get a hold of your truck for service because sometimes they flash the pcm. Then you'll be starting all over again....

Message: Ok...well I want to have the Mopar PCM. I do have a homemade CAI and it works well. But headers are next after PCM.
So does the PCM take advantage of every bolt on you do?
BTW i have a RC 5.2L Auto 3.55 Open Diff. <--SUX
Thanks!

Message: Here is a question that I have wondered about: Do you need to have the mopar pcm flashed with your vin number and milage before you can install it or can you just buy it (from somewhere that doesn't flash it)and put it right in?

Message: Whatever brand i buy do i have to get it flashed with mileage and all that? Cause i have heard that some other brands will automatically do it?
And if it wont could i take it to the local mopar dealer and get them to flash it with the mileage.
