hey mike s: Does the hughesengine stroker kit only consist of the pistons? or am i looking in the wrong spot on the site? How do you like your 390? what does your setup consist of and how much power are you making?

I think only the KRC and Hughes are Magnum kits. The others are carb I think. KRC is really good. I keep hearing good and bad about Hughes. There is a Ram guy on DTO that just built a 408 from his 360 with a Hughes kit. Just got it running yesterday.

I kit I got from Hughes included crankshaft, rods, pistons, rings and bearings. My motor is a LA type not a Magnum. I have the Edelbrock performer RPM heads and Air-Gap intake and the RPM Cam. I had a Edelbock Carb but was not happy with it's performance so I went with a Mighty Demon 750. I have a NOS super powershot nitrous system currently jetted for 125hp. I had this exact same set-up before I went with the stroker kit. My best 1/8th mile time with 318ci was 8.12. My new best time(last weekend) is 7.50 @ 80.64mph. Both times are with the 125shot. I'm very happy with the improved (all motor) power. I'd guess it was making around 400hp on all motor now and around 500hp on the bottle. The only thing I'm unhappy with is the trucks street manners. If I'd known I was going to do all of this too the truck I would have bought a 92 or newer and been able to have this much power fuel injected.LOL Anyhow, the hughes kit is nice(a bit pricy)but worth it too me at least.

Did you do the kit yourself? did you have to bore the block? or were teh pistons shorter?

I had the block bored .030 over and preped at a local speed shop. The block also needed slightly clearanced for the larger stroke crankshaft. I assembled the motor myself. The pistons are slightly shorter. The crank brought the pistons up to zero deck(pistons at TDC are even with the block).

That sounds like fun, no problems with the motor at all? I am going to be getting the stroker 390 for the magnum (fuel injected) And im going to supercharge it. You think it will be strong? Is this stroker as strong as the 360? Im sure the 360 probably has more torque but i would think this 390 stroker would preform more like a racing engine with its high revs it should be able to make.

I've had no problems with the motor at all. Other than it using gas LOL.. The 390 stroker will have more torque than a 360. A 390 and a supercharger will be a very powerful motor. As far as high revs that depends on the powerband of the camshaft and the intake, heads and exhausts ablity to flow air. With the right combination of parts the engine can be made to rev pretty high. I shift mine at 6400 on all motor and 6700 on the bottle but again my engine is not computer controlled. Sounds like your gonna have alot of fun with yours, good luck.
