Subject: '98 5.2 Dual Exhaust Questions IP: Logged
Message: '98 Dakota club cab 4WD with AC and OEM hitch.
My cat is rattling and throwing a O2 code now, and always wanted to put headers on the Dakota. So I'm plying with the idea of going dual exhaust.
My idea of dual exhaust is 2 cats, 2 mufflers and 2 pipes all the way back. Is this a good idea? The muffler shop guy I talked to didn't know what would happen to the fuel mixture since if I went that route I would only have the o2 sensor on one bank.
I've read I'll loose low end tourque, but the next upgrade is a chip later on.
Any suggestions for a cat?
Any suggestions for a quiet muffler? (I don't want a loud exhaust, just a nice tone, that doesn't ever annoy me in the cab)
I'm just starting this quest. Any good info with help.

Message: Red,
You should have no problems at all
Your set up has two pre o2's and one post. The pre O2 monitors oxygen in the exhaust that tells the PCM rich or lean, and the post O2 monitors the cat. condition.
If the state you live in has no testing you can install a rear O2 simulater and do away with the cats.
Note this is only legal for off road use.
Your exhaust guy should be able to help you with sound.
Have fun and enjoy the improvement.
