Personally, I use partially hydrogenated vegetable oil. It's cheap, and it's good for my heart.

Message: I use whatever is on sale since I change my oil every 2500 miles. I try to stick with Quaker State or Mobil. I don't use synthetic since it costs $3-4 more per quart, or $24 more per oil change. I have 70k on my 2002 4.7 and its never had a problem. I just dont believe a truck engine needs a sports car oil change. If your engine can run on 87 octane then it can run 5W-30 Oil, sythentics are for race cars. And don't argue you with me about synthetics only needing to be changed every 6000 miles, it still doesnt cover the additional cost of using it. Some dude at the auto parts store was buying Amsoil for his honda, and payed more money for the oil filter and oil than he did on the car. Set my mind straight on what I need. Just my Opinion. My old Chevy 350 ran 317,000 miles on Shell Oil before I sold it.

Synthetic Lubricants are fuel efficient, extended life lubricants manufactured and formulated from select basestocks and special purpose additives. In contrast to petroleum oils which are pumped from the earth and refined, synthetics are custom-designed in the laboratory. The properties of mineral oils (dino) tend to vary due to inconsistencies in the crude from which they are obtained. The properties and performance features of synthetics on the other hand, are very predictable due to their molecular uniformity, ... creating the ideal lubricant.
Since their inception, manufacturers of Synthetic Motor Oils have sought to educate the public about the facts regarding synthetics, and the need for consumers to make their lubrication purchasing decisions based on quality rather than price.
Though it sounds too good to be true, synthetics do reduce engine wear, improve gas mileage and increase horsepower. This is because synthetic oil molecules are superior in a number of ways to mineral-based oils.
- higher resistance to heat (up to 600 deg. F)
- Added lubricity (uniform diameter of synthetic oil polymers allows them to more easily slide over one another. The resultant reduction in friction shows up as more horsepower and torque and reduced internal engine wear)
- Higher film strength (one of the major benefits of synthetics, since film strength is what keeps oil molecules from being pushed away from each other under pressure)
- better "pour points", "flash points", "fire points"
- "high temperature and high sheer viscosity
- and so on and so forth .....
Bottom Line ... Everyone should be using Synthetic Lubricants!

With all the mixed messages -- oil companies promoting 3,000 mile oil changes -- while automakers recommend longer intervals through oil change indicator lights -- and 10,000 to 12,000 mile changes for European vehicles -- there's bound to be confusion. The result of this confusion is a pervasive distrust.
Even after customers buy something they want, they can be anxious and wonder whether they made the right decision by upgrading to synthetics.
When it comes to synthetic motor oils, having a firm understanding of their benefits is invaluable. For those who need a refresher, here are eight truths about why synthetics are better for today's motorist and worth the extra money upfront cost.
1) They offer superior wear protection so that engines last longer.
2) They improve fuel economy so that vehicles get better mileage out of every tank of gas.
3) Due to their low pour points and cold weather pumpability, they make winter starts much easier.
4) By reducing friction they help engines run cooler.
5) By reducing deposits engines run cleaner and perform more efficiently.
6) Due to lower volatility they reduce oil consumption.
7) They have been proven to provide more horsepower.
8) Because they resist oxidation and breakdown, they reduce varnish and sludge which keeps valves and rings from sticking.
It's a "wow" type of list. When combined with extended drains, premium synthetic motor oils offer these additional benefits:
1) Synthetics save customers money while improving your profitability. Their overall life-cycle costs are less than petroleum products, and you earn more as well.
2) They save customers time. Consumer surveys have shown that they desire the convenience of extended drain intervals. Motorists will pay extra for this convenience.
3) They reduce waste. Not only is there less waste oil to deal with, there are also fewer empty containers to dispose of.
No question about it, the truth is powerful. By speaking the truth about synthetics we can put to rest the anxious concerns of our customers regarding one of their biggest investments, their vehicles. In the end we're respected, and their engines are protected.

Message: Never rattle an AMSOIL Dealers cage! I have been using AMSOIL in my engines, transmissions, axles ever since they started making the stuff. I love the sound of the engine at 7000 RPM,the feel of the manual shift Torque Flite going into second, and the tire smoke that goes with it. The only failure I ever had was a transfer case chain break. Put it in four wheel drive to race a guy in a WS-6 Pontiac. Had him till the chain broke. Cut the trans in half. It was a mechanical failure, not an oil problem.

Sorry EyeRip,
No toothpaste and no detergent available.
Only Premium Synthetic Oils, Lubes, & Filters!
Just because our name is "Amsoil" does NOT mean that we are in any way associated with Amway. Amsoil got it's name because the founder's nickname when he was a fighter pilot was "ammo" ... so when he started marketing oil his friends called the oil "ammo's" oil which was later shortened to Amsoil.
Write that down somewhere so you don't forget.

The Amsoil "Action News" has ads for Altrum Nutrition Supplements. So if Amsoil sells health pills and oil, why can't I get toothpaste as well?
OK maybe it's not amway but I'm still seeing it as a competitor in the same game.
I especially liked the add for A.J.'s Male Power pills and the "Prostate Fomula".
