Would it be worth it to put dual exhaust on a 1989, 3.9 5-speed. Why/why not?

Dual exhaust on a 3.9 will KILL your torque not to mention sound like 5hit. Your exhaust would sound like 2, 3-cylinder engines running.

OH! Stange. So hahahaha, I`m obviously a moron cause I thought it would add more torque. What would you recommend then? Seriously.

Well I decided not to remove my third cat. I am going to have it replaced by a high flow cat though. With gas being what it is and the possibility of selling my truck in the future has demanded I keep it as legal as possible. I appreciate the Info you guys had for me, thank you very much.

I too thought about removing the cat. I was going to cut off the Y pipes where they merge together and run duals back from there. I didn't know the Y pipe was the true restriction problem. So I'm glad I didn't do it. I just had a nice dual cat back system installed and I sleep better knowing I don't have to fear the EPA.

You don't have to fear them at all. However, it is illegal to put duals on a vehicle that originally came with single (even if it's cleaner and performs better). Reason being it's an uncharacterized setup.

Flame all you want. I'm just the messenger, not the author of the rules.

Well, ON MY 4.7, with a real tranny,

Getting back to the original subject line, I'm glad I finally had my third cat removed from the single pipe. It's definitely better. My one year old can't even hold his head off his car seat when I romp on it now! J/K, really, J/K

Ever seen the inside of the 3rd cat? It has a small mesh screen, like a window screen, made of metal covering the entire hole!

I'm going to have the same shop run duals from just behind the pre cats, all the way back, parallel on the pass side. NOT STRAIGHT OUT THE BACK!!

'Cat back'? For what?
