Message: How do they handle in the wet? Is the ride noise good on them? Also where is the best place to buy them? I have been looking on tire rack and they ave decent prices.

Message: Ive had traction problems in the rain on all tires Ive had but these are definitly not the worst. I got them through Les Schwab's. I think tire rack has Kuhmos which are good tires. Next I'm gonna try the new Bridgestone Protenzas (tirerack has them too)and see how those perform.

Message: 275/50/17 would be a good size. Most are the same height but just a little bit wider. 255/40s would work, but they'd leave a big gap between the tire and the fenderwell and you probably wouldn't be happy with the look.

Message: Or possibly the ride. You're going to have less air in the tires with the 40s, and the ride won't be very smooth. Would definitely want to avoid the potholes.

Message: I love the Kumhos that the Tirerack.com has and for the price of $80 each they can't be beat. They are the best performing tire I have used especially in the rain over the stock tires and the Dunlops.

Message: I had a set of 18" O.Z. wheels and 255/45/18 Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D2 for a brief time, and while they looked bad-ass, the ride and performance suffered. You have to be VERY careful to not deviate more than .50" in overall tire diameter from stock, because the PCM will start throwing fits. Also, with the shorter sidewall, there is less flex; with a heavy truck like the Dakota, bumps became nightmares. Now I have the 17x9" R/T wheels, 255/55/17 Eagle RS-As, and they work great. I'm thinking of trying the Goodyear Wrangler F1 in 255/50/17, but they are going to cost a helluva lot of $.

Message: I've been real happy with the Michelin LTX Pilot 255/55/17's on my R/T 17x9's. They're about $165 each, but well worth the difference, IMHO.

Message: Turkeyhead,
How is changing the tire size going to make the PCM "throw a fit"?
The computer doesn't know what tires the truck has on it. The only thing that will be thrown off by changing the tire diameter is your speedometer.

Message: I mean speedo/odo errors, effects to gearing (transmission shifting, etc.). I was told a while back that if the size difference was too great, a "Check Engine" light would come on, and might lead to problems. My 18"ers caused the truck to bog down, for whatever reason. I have 3.55 gears.
