Well here it is!

Normal maintenance; oil and filters, spark plugs, spark plug wires, cap & rotor, belts & hoses, tires, brakes, timing belt and water pump every 60K, engine and trans oil seals at 200K, clutch and throwout bearing at 200K, distributor at 200K.

What was not normal maintenance and did not have to be replaced "BALL JOINTS", starter, alternator, radiator, struts, electrical system components, AC system components, suspension components, engine and tranny components besides seals.

Still Wondering?

A Honda with a punk a$$ kid driving it and the clutch lasting 200k Miles??????

I don't think so.

Lets throw this into the equation, since I witnessed this a few months back.

A Honda with a clutch trying to pull another Honda down the freeway? Clutch lasted less than 20 miles!

A Honda with an Auto trying to pull another Honda? DOn't even try it!

Still. I look and look and look. Hard to find any Honda's older than 1990 still on the road!

It's rare to find a late, late 89 or so Honda on the road. But it's pimped out from some ghetto rat illegal. But again he built and kept that hooptie running from all of the recylced (again) beer can Honda's littering the salvage yards here in Phoenix!

Any vehical running past 100000 will start wearing out components. Honda, Chevy, Dodge, Mazda and Rolls Royce's, any vehical. My Mazda's lost starters, alternators, fuel pumps. Chevy lost the radiator, alternator, front wheel hubs and a couple of pinion gears in four wheel drive, but gave great service for 160000. Stuff breaks on everything. Dakota's loose ball joints, big deal, replace them

Yeah Right.....
No FWD car goes 300,000 without struts. My mom replaced the struts in her civic at 90,000 miles. She kept the car for 180,000 miles. During that time she had to have a front end alignment every time she had the tires rotated which was about every 20K. She replaced the battery several times because of a short in the electrical system they never could find. They put 2 altenators on it and an AC compressor. After all of this, she still believes this is a good car because it required half the maintenance that her Hyundai required that was 2 years newer.

She also owns a 1992 toyota pickup. It's a 4cyl 5spd. In 150,000 miles she had to have the front end rebuilt, 2 water pumps, AC compressor, mirrors, brake rotors, and a new transmission. The stereo quit the 2nd year she owned it. She's only had the transmission in there 10,000 miles and some bimbo on a cell phone rear ended her with a Suburban and totaled it. Didn't even scratch the chrome on the bumper of the Suburban, but totaled the little tin can Toyota. Now she wants another Toyota. Go Figure!

Also, before she had the trans replaced in the toyota, she had it in the transmission shop twice to get the syncros fixed/replaced. It never would stay in gear or shift right. She finaly got tired of it and bought a new transmission. She has been fighting this battle with the transmission for 5 years. She finally got it fixed and it got totaled. Now she wants another one. They are all Japanese pieces of SH!T!

My step dad has a 1989 Silverado with 180,000 miles on it and all that's been done to it is an AC compressor. The only reason the compressor went out is because they did the R134 conversion on it. You would think she would learn from him and buy American.

No doubt.

TIN CANS I say! That's how they get their performance and gas mileage. They melt down our recycled beer cans and build that sh!t!

Our 1998 Chrysler Cirrus had about 75K on it when we traded it in for the new minivan. I had replaced the struts, motor mounts, timing belt, hoses, front wheel bearing and many other things that wear. Most of it I did just because I felt it was time to change them like the drive belts, timing belts, struts, etc. But the motor mounts and the wheel bearings wore out really early I think. That's the weak point for Dodge. It had a random klunk in the front end that drove the wife batty. It handled fine but made a klunk occasionally as she turned the wheel. I bought a rack and pinion for it and then we traded it in before I could install it.

That car, part Mitsu-bitchi, is as close to Jap-Crap as I want to be again. I love my Dak and she's got her minivan now.

Oh yeah. We just got back from seeing Starsky and Hutch. Makes me want to go buy a Grand Torino and go jump it! I have jumped cars before, bending the frame a few times. Not as high as they did in the movie but it's still pretty scary!

No Kidding...

Honda might make a descent truck. Who knows? Nissan's Titan is pretty impressive. That Japs are coming on strong. They do seem to be a little more reliable, but I have a theory on that.....
Bare with me folks, because I preaching again!!

If you notice, there are many vehicles in Consumer reports that are exactly alike with very different reliability ratings. For Example:

The Neon and the PT cruiser are exactly the same vehicle, but the PT is rated up there in the ranks of Toyota Camrys while the Neon is almost at the bottom of the most unrelaible list. How is this possible, you ask? It is real simple. The people that buy PT cruisers are usually safer drivers and they don't over drive their vehicles. They pamper their vehicles. On the other hand, Neon owners are typically younger and drive more agressively. Their cars consequently break down more often.

What's my point you ask? People that buy Hondas, Toyotas, Mercedes, Lexus, etc.... are much more conservative in their driving style. Most people that buy these cars don't care what HP the engine has. They ususlly have more money and take better care of their cars also.

That Nissan Titan is impressive indeed. I haven't SEEN the engine compartment myself, but, if it's like OTHER newer Nissan vehicles it wont be too user friendly to modify. I had a 2001 Altima. I didn't even mess with the intake tube because it had electronic sensors in the RUBBER tubing! It had vacuum hoses and wires everywhere! SInce I got my 2003 Dak I've come to enjoy the very simple and easy to work on engine compartment!

The Nissan is not a bad truck from what I can tell tho.
I wonder if Honda would go THAT big right into it? I doubt it. They always strive for fuel efficency foremost. Meaning it will be a cheap recycled beer can.

Does anyone remember working on the early to mid 80's Honda's??? Remember the FIFTY vacuum hoses running to like TWENTY electric valves and switches????? And that THREE barrel carberator????? Holy SH!T!
They seemed to run ok until one of those many parts failed. But I STILL don't see any of them on the road these days. AT ALL!

"Punk A$$ Kid" replying, LOL

The clutch wasn't replaced at 200K because it failed, it was replaced since I had to pull the trans to replace al the engine and trans seals. Kind of stupid not to replace the clutch while in there.

The CV boots were also replaced 2-3 times, touch of Alzheimers forgetting about those.

The struts, ball joints, wheel bearings and other suspension components can go 330K without replacing them. 2 weeks before my 92 Civic was totalled I replaced all 4 tires, brakes and had the dealeship perform a 4 wheel alignment. The alignment cost $65 because all of the components were good. Never seen a dealership turning away paying work, warranty work yes, but not work that brings in money.

I think Honda makes great vehicles, but I could also see someone else running the same exact car into the ground at 150K by not maintaining it properly, or relying on the dealership to keep the car in top condition. I lucked out since the Honda service dept I took the car to was extremely honest and reliable. Can't say this for too many dealer service departments out there.

Unpatriotic? If companies like Honda, Toyota and Nissan didn't start selling economical well built cars back in the 70's we would be driving the same crappy sh1t box cars that were sold back then. It's called raising the bar, the US manufacturers had to produce a better procuct to stay in business. The reliable US cars we drive now would have never come this far without forgein competition.

I suppose anything that is produced by a foreign company must be purchased by unpatriodic people in the US. Well how about all the Americans who work at the US production plants for Honda, Toyota and Nissan? Are they unpatriotic? Let's try this, you go over to one of the US car plants for Honda, Toyota or Nissan and start waving your unpatriotic flag during shift change. Get back to us on how your experiment worked after you recover from the azz whiping.

How about all the people who buy from a foreign company called Daimler, Daimler/Chrysler, DC or Dodge. Do you like the 4.7l engine in the Dak, it's not Dodge's design, it's a Mercedes truck engine.

No Sh!t. I'm afraid to run against one of those Titans myself!

The Titan looks BETTER than I thought the Nissan would look like. Compared to the really plastic looking forntier. But, I still like the Dakota's look better. Doesn't look as plastic as the Titan.

Comparing the tin cans again.
My 2001 Altima had a hood that weighed as much as 3 or 4 Honda hoods. Very solid.
My friend has a Civic Si. He said the mechanics let the hood drop shut one day at the shop. They forgot a PLASTIC tool of some sort laying on top of the engine. He said the tool went THROUGH the hood!

Well, people keep talking Honda's reliablity, but where's a Honda older than 15 years at (besides the junk yard)?

Look at this. I posted this on another thread, for a different reason.

Here's my friends 1973 Duster. Mostly metal, kind of outdated. But it's ALL in one piece with some minor seat tears. And this car was driven HARD, not parked in a garage obviously but still, under the dust it's in great shape! The 318 had well over 200K when he got it. It was rebuilt by us 15 years ago with performance mods and ran about 100+K miles of HARD a$$ kicking driving.

He's got a 425+ HP 360 for it. Just needs to swap it in.

I can't say much for his 1975 Chevy truck however. It's got day light showing through the floor board. But it still runs with a bad ass 350 that would pull 3 Hondas around.

Where's all the 15+ yr old Honda's???
No ones GOT one with all those 300K+ miles on them and all???

Nissan is my choice for Japanese. I especially like the 3.5L 5spd Altima. If I was buying a familly car for the wife to drive, that would be my choice becuase then I could take it out and THRASH IT!.

Speaking of tin cans, there were 7 teenagers killed where I live just 2 weeks ago driving one of those recycled cans. They hit a tree on a rural road inside city limits of Memphis and it totaly ripped that car apart. You could not even tell what it was. They said all 7 died instantly. I can't imagine this. I must be the luckiest man alive.

Well I'm sure it's hard to find 15+ year old Japanese vehicles in America but in Japan, Australia and New Zealand I'm sure they aren't uncommon.

I love dodge trucks and all and I have a great affinity for the chevy 350SB and cars like the Buick Grand National, but not all Hondas are built like civics. 97 - 01 Preludes are pretty solid vehicles nearly 3000lbs and the hood is fairly heavy. I have owned one for 2 years but I'm finally trading it in, not that is wasn't a fun car but it doesn't suit my needs anymore.

If you don't beleive me than your calling the dealership a liar too since they put down 312,731 miles as mileage for my car.
