Message: sorry bud, but no one company has made a suspension lift for the gen 1 dakota's. there are body lifts available but if you really want a suspension lift then check out www.walt-n-ingrid.com. the guy adapted a 91-96 trailmaster lift to his 88. thats your best shot at a suspension lift.

Message: I have a 1989 Dakota and I added 6" to my cab height and almost 5" to my suspension travel WITHOUT a "lift kit". How did I do it, you ask? Crank the front torsion bars (if its a 4x4) up 2", install a 2" body lift, and get BF Goodrich A/T KO's 31x10.5" tires. This will give you all the lift you are seeking, without spending huge amounts of dough!
I explained all of this on my website:
http://www.geocities.com/Baja/Desert/1727/DodgeDakota.html
Nobody makes a typical suspension lift for the Generation I Dakotas. Dodge didn't sell enough to make it worthwhile for lift kit manufacturers.

Message: Hi dude, I know how you feel. I have a 1990 2wd Dak. So far I have installed a 3 in trailmaster body lift (great) and a 2in rough counrty suspension lift (not worth any time) and have 31x10.50's. But I found a company called AIM ind. that makes a 3 inch suspension lift for GenI 2wd's. For a 4wd,I don't know but check them out. You might get lucky. 1 800-289-9980

Message: Ryan, that 3in suspension lift comes with upper control armsand 3in lift coils. My truck is a 2wd. I am not sure how the 4x4 are set up. But give them a call. That number I gave you is theirs. But don't hold me to this lift, I researched it for a 2wd not a 4x4! I search around and find that web site, ok. Talk to you later.

Message: Ryan, hate to tell you but you didn’t increase your suspension travel 5” by cranking the torsion bars 2 inches, adding a 2-inch body lift and installing bigger tires. You actually lost suspension travel.
First, a body lift doesn’t add range of travel to the suspension; it just increases the clearance of the wheel wells. The suspension still has the same range of travel as it did without the body lift. It will only travel up as high as the lower bump stop will allow and travel down as low as the upper bump stop will allow. Adding a body lift doesn’t change this for both bump stops are mounted to the frame, not the body.
Second, in the front, by cranking the torsion bars, you decreased your downward travel because the upper bump stops are now closer, perhaps even touching, the upper control arms. And because you’ve increased the amount of torque on the torsion bars (notice the stiffer ride after cranking them?), you really lost upward travel for the more torque on the bars, the more rigid they become, until they break.
You would probably get a slightly better RTI (Ramp Travel Index) rating with your torsion bars adjusted to the correct height than you would with them cranked.

Message: Ryan, how are ya man? I finally found that web site for AIM ind. It is www.truckn.com You can also try www.chassistech.com, then choose the middle out 3 options on the first page that comes up. If you indeed do have a 1990 2wd, it should work. They also have thics awsome extreme travel kit that is 3in but the entire front susp. is new. Sounds cool to me. Yeah, check them out. Tell me what happens. I am thinking about going with that 3in'er my self. But I would really only gain an inch. (Due to removing my present 2in spacer.) Good Luck!!!

Message: Hey Joe, I got on the web site just fine. Thanks for finding that for me. You said that it comes with upper control arms and 3in. lift coils. Does it include leaf springs for the back. I found the control arms and coil springs on the web site, but do I have to buy the leaf springs seperate. Is there a kit that has everything, how much is it going to cost? If you get it tell me how well it turns out.
Yes I do have a 1990 2wd club cab. I want to get the lift to have more clearence under the wheel wells and more ground clearence. Right now I have LT235/75/R15 on it and they rub on the inside of the wheel wells some times. How big of tires do you think I could put on it with that 3 in. lift.
Keep in touch, Ryan

Message: Hi Ryan, good to hear you got ahold of AIM. What I was told by them is that you must buy the front and rear lifts seperate. You know about the 3in front lift. The rear, you could go with either the rear Flip kit which places the leaf springs above the rear axel. or you could go with the Hanger kit which can be places to fit your specific needs. The hanger is the "holder" that holds the leaf spring at the rear. Or you could go with the shackle which is 2in I think. It is all up to you and what you want to accomplish.
Personally, With my 2in susp. lift, it seems that the add a leaf is not quit as high as the fron'ts spacer. so I have a small difference in the front height and the rear height. I am looking into getting the 2 in shackle kit to raise my rear, haha, alittle. Good Luck with your truck. The two components together are (Front $379.00), rear either $100.00 4in hanger both sides, or $99.00 for the 5-7in axle flip kit. Then probably another $250.00 to 350.00 for installation at a 4x4 shop. Thats what I was quoted here in Florida. TOTAL: around $800.00

How is it going. I am going to get the 3in. lift for the front and the 4in. hangers for the back. I am also thinking about getting a locker for the rear end. How is your truck coming along? Keep in touch.

Message: Ryan, good to hear from ya. Cant wait to see what that 3in lift does for you. I really really want to ditch the 2in leveling kit on my truck and go with the 3in AIM kit. I envy you my man. My truck is getting there. I just fabricated a home brew cold air intake system today. Installed it and off I went. Very happy with the results. Better low end torque and HP. See what it does in the comming days. And installed the roll bar. That was fun trying to use the roll bar and keep my tonneau cover. But got it on. Oh and installed a 2.5 in cowl hood scoop on my stock hood. Still looking at the same lift you got. Need some cash though. Just put $800. into new breaks. Did not want to do that! Much rather installed mods.
I am abou to get a digital camera so I will be posting picts soon. I would love to see your truck Ryan. I am very intrested in it.
Talk to you later man. And Good Luck!
Joe E. Lets keep in touch alright. we can help each other out...

Message: i have a '91 (obviously) and put on heckethorn add-a-leafs (2") and torqued up the torsion bars about 2". i trimmed the fenders years ago and am ready to put 32"s on. i can fit 33"s, but i can't wheel. whats the fun in that? 33"s would be perfect, but i cant trim the wheel wells much more w/ out hitting the cab supports. also dodge, in some places triple layered and/or folded the metal, making it more difficult to trim the metal. o well. use a mallet or hammer to flatten out any other metal sticking out. the only cheap 32" mudders out there are Uniroyal laredos at $100 each. none others i can find that fit that. so, voila.
