Subject: Torsion Bars!! IP: Logged
Message: How tight can you tighten the torsion bars? Do you tighten them all the way down or is there a factory spec????? My dakota looks like it is a little lower in front than others. I rebuilt it. Put a new frame under it. Is there a setting to put the torsion bars at?????

Message: I cranked my torsion bars up 5 turns to level the front of the truck. Make sure you turn them both the same number of turns and remember that it will settle a little after you drive it. You should also go get your alignment checked afterwards, even though when I had mine checked afterwards the alignment was PERFECT (makes me wonder what it was before I cranked them??) In my opinion the truck rides better with the bars cranked, and it definately looks better!!

Message: Cranking Your Torsion Bars shouldn't mess with your alignment any. But it's always a good thing to check.

Message: I cranked the t-bars last week on my 2002 club cab (2600 miles) to level it out. 1 3/4 turns for 1" on the new bars. Right away i could tell something was off cause of the rubber it left in the driveway. Went in Monday morning for alignment, here's what happened:
Left Front:
Camber - Specs:-.08 to .3 Before: .1 After: .1
Caster - Specs:2.8 to 3.8 Before: 3.5 After: 3.6
Toe - Specs:.02 to .08 Before: .34! After: .06
Right Front: (same specs)
Camber - Before: -.06 After: .1
Caster - Before: 2.7 After: 3.5
Toe - Before: .12! After: .07
I would definately recommend an alignment to anyone doing this to the front end. Ask me again next year how the ball joints are holding up after 30K!
