Now that side shot looks awesome, my palms are sweaty and my heart rate is speeding up, imagine a 3" body lift on top of that:) On the angle pic, the front tires need some camber adjustment it looks like though, maybe it's just me? How many inches is that, 6"? and is that a mega block over the rear axle for lift? Our prayers may be answered...

I guess there's no way to get away from the torsion bar drop bracket thing, eh? I like the tall truck, but the torsion bars hanging down isn't all that appealing to the eye.

Yeah, that's the problem with IFS Blizz, It's the front crossmember that I don't like the appearance of but I want to go higher and It doesn't look any different than IFS on other trucks with lift bigger than 3". You have raised the most important question though, how much?

Its a sweet truck, but the blocks in the back between the leaf springs and axle are a little too tall, seems like you'd get a lot of axle hop wouldnt you? but a nice truck nonetheless

I am sure that is the cheapest way to lift the rear, rearched springs with drop shackles being more expensive but more practical. I don't think I would go with 4-5" of block to retain stock ride due to things like axle wrap and the appearance from behind must look a bit odd too. New springs would probably add another $400-500 to the price tag easily and the ride would definately suffer. Decisions, decisions...

Are they releasing a kit for the 97-99 Dak. It would be nice to have a 4"+ option other than the tuff country lift since their is so much bad stuff being said about it.

Anyway, I guess they haven't got the longer shocks yet, that just stuck out at me.

BTW I'd go with a 2" add-a-leaf and 2" block. I've seen trucks with 4" blocks take off at stoplights and have watched their leaf springs turn into S-shapes. And offroad, all that axle wrap makes the entire truck bunny hop over bumps.

I guess my questions are related to the functional side of it...

Whole point of going with a suspension lift is to be able to (1) run larger tires, (2) provide increased suspension travel (better articulation), and (3) increase the approach, departure, and breakover angles. The lift obviously allows the truck to run larger tires, so (1) is taken care of. As far as (3) is concerned, I see the following: increased approach angle (about the same or somewhat better than a body lift); increased departure angle (much better than a body lift); breakover angle looks as though it would be unchanged over a stock height or body lifted Dak because of the dropped torsion bar mounts. As far as (2) is concerned, I'd be very curious if there's any increase in suspension travel at the front...doesn't look like there would be any at the rear because it is a lift block rather than different springs with a higher arch.

By the way, I'm not picking at it, I'm just curious. I know the function of a body lift is minimal (other than the use of larger tires), but they are inexpensive. So I'm curious what the cost to benefit ratio is for this particular setup.

For all of you curious...

The 5" blocks in the rear of the pictures are going away. They are in the process of making shackles for them they will have 2", 4" and 6" shackles available.
The Front lift 6.5" is solid and not adjustable for those of you who I told differently earlier. It can be made to 4" and I'm getting the details on that.

They are putting together a whole kit which will cost somewhere around $2,000 and will include the front lift, schackles for the rear and shocks.

Of course this is all still in the works but as soon as it's out I WILL!! let you guys know. When this is available I'm going to have it shipped & installed. I'll get you guys all the information I can grab and plenty of pictures. Before/After and of the kit.

You guys are not asking about the front rack & pinion steering. I would like to see pics on the steering setup. This is what has kept other from making a lift for 2000+ Daks. If all they did was use a regular steering box... then I fail to see what this lift does. Those of us with 2k+ Daks could always buy a 99 and down lift kit and swap our R&P box with a recirc-ball box.

Well so far it looks great. Just the rear blocks are a bit too much.Rack and pinion is a bit of a concern.But overall very nice.Man there goes the warranty right out the door hehehe!

Today the Dakota is done. We have weld/bolt on nerf bars, 4 inch lift spring hangers. 1-4 inch shackles. An awesome skid plate (red for this truck). You should see pics of all this tomorrow

Hey guys I am the one with the red dakota in the pictures. They ended up using shakles in the rear. And yes they did put on the rear shock. Don't know why there isn't one in that picture. The only problem is that the front tires rub a little on tight turns. But that will hopefully be fix in the next day or so when i have the wheel wells trimed a little. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask me. If anyone is out in LA and would like to see it let me know, we could meet somwhere.

TruckinSuspension makes it ChassyTech (spelling?) developed it but Truckin told them to change things along the way to make it stronger and a better all around lift.

So basically TruckinSuspension makes it. The targeted price (which I'm hopeing will be lower) is $2,000 by my guesses anyway I think by the time we find out here it will be posted on there website http://www.truckinsuspension.com It takes from 6-8 hours to install but that's at a shop that knows the kit and has done it before. So guess around 12 hours for the install if they are going to do a really good job. Also don't forget to have everything re-aligned after you have it lifted...

Man I can't wait to get this done MUAH AH HA AH AHAAA I have a hunting trip comming up and I'm driving. I'd love to have this done by then.

Hmmm ... $2k for a susp lift to fit 33x12.50 tires vs $200 for a body lift to run the same tires?

I mean, it's not like you gain any ground clearance at all with all the brackets hanging down to catch on stuff. Guess I'd rather have the beefy frame catching the brunt of stuff than drop brackets.

$2k seems steeper yet after reading that. I'm a susp lift fan all the way, but these manufacturer's sure know how to rape a guy charging $2k for a few brackets. I know how supply/demand works, but that's ridiculous.

15x8, but that's really beside the point. There are guys running 33x12.50 tires with 3" body lifts on 8" wheels. I do have a question for ya .... What do the 33x12.50 BFG Mud Terrains really measure? My 35x12.50 All Terrains really measured just over 33" tall. Just curious if BFG has changed at all since I bought mine.

And, again, usually the major advantage of a susp lift is ground clearance. And I just don't see that happening with the current design.

You definitely got a deal, dpkerns, and I'm not knocking you for doing it. But for me to spend $2k on a suspension lift I gotta see the benefit. I just don't see it with the current design.

hey blizz I totally agree with you. I don't know what the tires really measure. I was just wondering what size rim you had. I have 15x10 and the tires are hitting the front bottom bumper. i went to a store and asked them if they could trim the bumper. they said sure but if I was to put an 8 inch rim I wouldn't have this problem. But it is kind of late for that. Considering I have already paid for the tires and rims.

Yeah, the offset of my 8" wheels make my 32's stick out beyond the fender flares on mine too. No way around that, I guess.

I gotta admit I was really excited when this whole suspension lift post came about ... was just disappointed when I saw the end result. I didn't quite know what to expect. I guess if I want a radical lift, with extreme tires, and fully functional suspension lift I'll have to break down, sell the Dak, and buy a '01 Ram with straight axle.

I know the feeling I made the mistake of buying the truck before finding out if there were any suspension lift. I was really mad when i found out that there wasn't any. All i wanted was a truck with a nice lift with 35's I have also debated selling my dak for something else that can have a huge lift.

Constructive Criticism =========$2K does seem steep considering you can buy the Superlift 5.5" for around $1,300-1,400 with shocks, granted it is for the 91-99 but I can't imagine the rack and pinion could add $6-700 greenbacks. At that price, it would be outta my price league for an "untested" lift kit. Now, for maybe half that price I would be one of the few that get it to find out how the thing wears and give feedback on ways(if any) to improve the kit for better quality control. Being that nobody else has long-termed the lift, we don't know how it will peform after some mileage or abuse has been put on it. They can't want to sell very many at that price, I am not trying to be a pessimist but $2K for an otherwise untested kit is not appropriate IMO.

Playing devil's advocate here...

I seem to remember several months ago people badmouthing (myself included) body lifts, or at least questioning their value and functionality. Funny how once Hawkeye & Viper did theirs, a bunch of us followed suit. Perhaps its only a matter of time before a bunch of us are shelling out $2K for the suspension lift...

Let's just see how this works out for dpkerns and be thankful that he's the guinea pig. Thanks for being the trailblazer DP!

Just seemed a little easier to swallow the $200 bill to experiment with the body lift as opposed to a $2k bill.

But, I agree, keep us posted as to the performance of your new susp lift, dpkerns! Just curious ... do you offroad? Or were you just after "the look"? A street test wouldn't do a suspension lift true justice! ;o)

FWIW, 33x12.50's on 15x8's here with very very minor rubbing, bottom back corner for front bumper in mid turn, fixed with a little trimming. Just for comparison purposes.

I have to agree with Blizzard and 2THEXTRM on this one, Just last month I shelled out $3,000 for a down payment and still have to pay $440 per mo. on my new truck so right now a suspension lift isn't as important as $2,000, $600-1200 maybe I'll think about it. but for now I have other more important things to buy.

Well I'm definatelly going to do this lift and I agree with you guys 100% about the costs involved. It's going to be cutting me REALLY!!! thin to go with a $2,000 lift then another at least $600 to install $55 for the Alignment and we all know what wheels and tires cost... Because of all that I think I'm going to stick w/ my stock 16x8" wheels as a temporary thing at least.

I'm trying to find a shop that will give me a deal on the install and let me be there to get input while they are doing the lift and also take alot of pictures. But as most of you know there aren't all that many shops that will let you hang out and watch them do the install of a new lift. I just hope that I can convince them to let me be there. If I could get this lift for $1,500 and test it... WHOOO HOOO!! you'd better believe that I'd be promoting this like a big dog if it holds up well.

I don't know many trails around here but I can put it threw some mud abuse and afew rolling trails but my truck is not going to see rocks any time soon.
