Subject: AE 589s and 33's w/ 3" body lift
IP: Logged

Message:
Hey, I was wondering if anyone is running the American Eagle 589s with 33's and a 3" body lift. I am currently running 33x12.50 BFG ATs on the stock rims with the lift installed. There was some rubbing on the frame, so I modified the stock steering stops and eliminated that. Now I'm wondering if the reduced backspacing on the 589s would make the tires rub on the wheel well moldings, instead. Anyone know anything about this? Preferably, someone with a 4x4, please... Also, I'd love to see a picture if you've got one. Thanks!

I have American Racing 767's. I think you will be ok with the 589's.

Hawkeye, if I'm reading the numbers correctly: http://www.americanracing.com/wheels/details.asp?wheelid=47&name=AR-767&type=Steel%20alloy,%20painted&picture=AR-767
The rims you've got have a 5 inch backspacing and the 589s have 3 3/4" backspacing. I know I can do 5 inches because that's only .25 inches off the stock setting, I believe.

As for the steering stops, I drilled out a small hole in the stock stop and then put a grade 8 bolt through hole with a nut on either side to give me some adjustment. Works perfectly. By the way, anyone else interested in this should avoid stainless steel bolts and go larger than .25 inch bolts. I tried that first and the first time I turned the wheel hard, I bent them to hell.

So, if anyone has any experience with wheel/tire/lift setup I decribed in the first post, please let me know. Thanks again guys.

actually, I just found a site that says the backspacing on the 589s is really 3 1/4", not 3 3/4"... now I don't knwo what to believe... maybe this makes things worse than I thought?

I had the Eagle 589 for a day, they have a 3.75 backspacing they rubbed big time!!! running 15x8, BFG Mud TA/KM, 32X11.50, I had to change to American Racing, Baja rims with a 5.5 backspacing to keep the tire from rubbing. The 5.5 backspacing is same as factory rims.
If you can, test fit the wheel and tire combo !!!!

that's what I was afraid of... you're not lifted, right? this is getting pretty discouraging. why would they make those rims in 15x8 if they make the tires rub? there must be a way!

Because the tires don't rub on all trucks just some. That's the way it will always be. Unless there is only one truck out there left........

I just installed the 3" body lift. I put on the 33x12.5x15" xterrains on a/e 589's and only get slight rubbing when the wheel is turned all the way. I love this setup. If you have any questions let me know. The backspacing is 3.25.
Thanks,
Corey Coad

I had a 99 x-cab sport with the 589's and 33's with a 3" body lift. they rubbed on the bottom of the front bumper and lower part of the fender flair. i then took off the 3" and made a 4" lift and trimmed the lower part of the fender flair. i then had no problem. i'm from Pa and if you would like a good deal on my wheels i can hook you up. the reason they are not on the truck anymore is because i traded it. they where only on the truck during last summer. if you like you can e-mail me at r_smeltz@hotmail.com
