Subject: "trans help please" IP: Logged
Message: I have a 92 Dakota,3.9 V6 automatic (all stock) that needs some help. I have 175,000 miles on the truck and the motor still runs like new. I towed a full size conversion van about 60 miles and now 3rd gear slips. I want to rebuild the trans but cannot figure out how to get it out of the truck without cutting the cross member where the torsion bars mount. The transfer case hits the cross member. There must be a way. If anyone can help, it would be most appreciated. Thank You.

Message: 1. remove all the nuts and bolts that hold the tranny to the engine and crossmembers.
2. pick up your truck and shake it real good.
3. tranny will be at your feet.
4. Now wasn't that easy?

Message: If you can't Drop the front of trany down and bring it forward out of the cradle you will need to remove the transfer case . one or the other has to work. support the back end of the engine while doing this job.
