Hey, I have a 1998 2WD CC V6. I really wanna run like 32s or 33s on my Dak. I really cant afford a suspension lift of any kind so I was going to do the 3-inch body and just run 32s. I went to my only offroad shop and they quoted me and 690+tax to just install my lift. Thats about $745. I said no. I was looking at different types of lifts on www.truckn.com today and I noticed these "lift block" things on there. They are from 1 to 4 inches and are very cheap. I was just wondering about the 4-inch ones. Heres my questions: will the 4-inchers work with my truck (2wd)? How do you install these and would I be able to do it? How much would it be to install these? I was just wondering about them b/c i REALLY want a lift and some bigger meats. I run 30x9.50 BFG A/Ts now and i was AT LEAST a 32 and to be a little taller. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Stephen, your best bet (and cheapest) is to go for a 3" body lift. That price, though, seems too high, even installed. But then again, I would install it myself, its easy enough with basic tools. I think the kit should only be around $150-$200. Then labor on top if you don't install yourself.

As for the lift blocks, the 2wd's are "undersrung" which means blocks will actually lower the truck! Not good!! The front end cannot be lifted with blocks either (no axle). So your choices are really only 2: Suspension Lift (costly) OR Body Lift (cheapest and easiest).

If you know your way around tools and your truck, you should buy the body lift and install it yourself, which cost you only about 200 bucks!! I'm not too sure about the 98's, but it can't be much different than the 2000 models. ;-)

So, how would these lift blocks lower my truck. I cant just throw on some 3-4 inch lifters and be done with it? D@mn It!!

The 4” lift blocks mount between the rear axle and the leaf springs. On a 4x4 Dakota, the rear springs sit above the axle on a spring pad. When you install the 4” blocks, the springs are then moved up 4” above the axle pads, increasing the height of the truck. That’s how you get the 4” of lift. On a 2wd, the spring pads and springs are below the axle. Adding a 4” spacer moves the springs down 4”, decreasing height. Also a 2wd uses coil springs in the front.

well, he could always do an axle flip in the rear, and he'll get lift without any blocks... (that's where you change it so the axle sits on top, instead of below) but that still doesn't help the front end.

So if it's a 2WD application, is their any type of block lift available for the rear to match say a Fabtech 1.5" kit that raises the front and gets you longer travel rear shocks?

using 4in blocks would also require longer parking brake cable and mabey new brake lines also. I have 2in blocks on my 4x4 and when I get the rear axle really twisted, my ebrake starts to lock up.

2WD people beware:

As was mentioned earlier, your rear axle is ABOVE the leaf springs, so a 2" block would LOWER your ride. You would have to flip the axle - put it on the other side of the leaf springs.

Looking at my '97, it looks like flipping would add about 6", way too much for my needs.

Does anyone have anything to say about the thought of using longer leaf spring hangars for a small (1.5-2") lift? I saw a website that sold either the front or rear, but had no info really? Better to start with front or rear? So many questions...

I talked to a dodge tech about my lift blocks when I was getting my transfer case installed, and he said that if you use a block that is 2in or higher you should check the rear seal where the slip yoke for the drive shaft comes out every once in a while because it will wear out a lot sooner with the blocks installed.

yo zatch...im using shackles, which i believe you are talking about. they are what connect the leafs to the frame. Basically, the kit requires front hangers and rear shackles...for both ends...but i just went with the shackles that are on the back end of the leaf. I have 2 inch lift shackles and they did lift the truck 2 inches for sure. If you ask for a 2 inch lift shackle, they will give you 4 inch shackle, which means it will lift half that...2 inches. There are 2 sets of holes for your choice of 2 or 1 inch lift as well. Overall, they are pretty effective and leveled out my truck from when the fabtech lift didn't. Just don't buy them from Truckinsuspension cuz mine are falling apart. Read the post "Damn Truckinsuspension"..hehe.

Thrash 1, Zatch and Chamax. Have pic of my proto type block. I do believe it will adapt to most all given models. It's hangar support and positing are all located above axle housing mid-way for better support. It has also shown good repitition of pinion angle. If possible feel free to mail me, as I have no other means of communication to you all. rwshel@epsi.net

I have a 2000 Dakota 4x4 and just finished the 3 inch body lift, and its awesome. I was really hoping to put 33s under the wheel wells but its pretty tight. I was hoping to put 1 inch blocks in the back and cranking up the tortion bars to level it out. If anybody heard anything bad about that please give me a shout.
