Has anyone had problems with the propeller shaft which connects the front differential with the transfer case?

The CV joint on mine fragmented like a grenade. I'm having it rebuilt for about $150.00. The dealership wanted $450.00 for a new one.

Should have it back in a couple of days.

Well four shop claim they can't get one and Cardone, the manufacturer claim they don't have any. Everyone else is back ordered.

I found one place that claims to have two on the shelf.

Has anyone else looked for one of these things?

Get one off a wrecked Dak. Otherwise buy one from the guy who has two on the shelf.

Wow Flash..why didn't I think off that.

The inquiry was to see if anyone else has had a problem with this issue.

If the issue was to find a smart ass you would have won.

I desroyed 3 of the double-cardan u-joints in my 79 F150 before I sold it, but not in either of the Dakotas that I have owned. See if a local machine shop could rebuild and rebalance the broken shaft you have. I'm going to be getting a stronger shaft with bigger joints to handle the 400-450 horse big block I am currently building for my 79 Bronco.

Thanks Kota Kid

I have been told since posting that the damaged shaft can not be rebuilt. I have since ordered a new unit, cost came to roughly $345.00

I am wait for it to arrive and then install, it will be about 3 weeks with out 4wheeling.

Good Luck with your Bronco.

I found a locla drive shaft shop that can get or build just about anything, I was talking to him just last week and asked him if he could get the parts to rebuild the front axle shafts, and he told me he can get them, and a whole lot more if I need it. And its a lot cheaper than buying the whole thing from Auto-Zone, or someone else.
He does a lot of work for off road 4X4's including drive shafts, he pointed out that the Ford drive shafts in 4X4's don't last very long and he came up with some parts that will last much longer and cheaper than most of the stock stuff. All you need to do is find yourself a local shop and and be nice, and they will be likely be happy to help you any way they can.
Good Luck
