Message: Pretty simple
(wanted tire width - stock tire width)/2=X
this will tell you by how much more the new tires will stick out by themselves..
3-X=Y
this will tell you what you need to get your
wanted 3in
Stock rims backspacing-Y= Backspacing for the new whells..
So let say your stock tires are 8.5in wide and the wheels BS is 4.5
(10.5-8.5)/2= 1
3-1=2
4.5-2= 2.5 BS for the new rims..
Now, if my numbers are close to the real thing, you might realize that you need wider tires to get to your 3inches, because I'm pretty sure you cant get 2,5in of BS on any kind of wheels, and it probably wouldnt be safe anyway..
So,
Option #1: Wider tires and rims
Option #2 get a set of wheel spacers.. But good and thick ones arent cheap..

Message: I've read somewhere it is 5in, but the best way to be sure is to measure it..
Here's a link that tells you how to measure backspacing..
