great rear disk setup available from The Street Rod Manufacturing Co. in Col., just outside denver. website available. ask for Skip or Cliff. its a great set up, I love it. $600 for the set, about 300 less if you dont want the calipers fitted with parking brakes. will ship UPS, comes in a box about 12"x12"x12"

Well i guess its worth the 6 bills if you end up with a very noticeable difference in stopping, cause you guys seem pretty happy with it,and it doesnt look to hard to install, right now as we speak my suspension lift is getting put on and after looking at what went into that theres no way i could have done that myself in the driveway, even the guy doing the job said that was a tough job.I should get it back by the end of today, just waiting on the Bilstien shocks.

hey Bucket- 600 is a lot, but I feel its worth it. the drums were "okay" but they tended to chatter and were getting pretty rusted inside from all the water and mud. plus, there is a certain "cool factor" with the disks. The install is not bad at all, the brake bleed takes a long time because the lines are so long, and the parking brake cable is a little tricky, but all in all its a home driveway job.

Well i got to agree with that Dave i had my drums off this weekend and yep they were rusty and dirty and not to mention disk brakes are "cool" and easier to change when needed, right now my trucks in getting the clutch done,i got it back friday from WeldTech they just put the suspension lift on,but from what i can see and from what you say i think i can do the disk brakes myself,i think i will do that in the next two to three weeks and i will let you know what happened, and take some pics.

hey Bucket, the install on the disc brakes is a one day job, maybe spill over to a second day to bleed and adjust parking brake cables. There are great instructions and trouble shooting guide on the TSM website, and they send instructions in the the box with the stuff.

I forgot to mention that where the stock solid brake lines join up with the new stainless steel lines you get with the kit there is a bracket/tab that needs to be tack welded to the axle housing. the joint between stock solid brake line and the new flex brake line need the tab for strength at the joint. If you dont have a welder you can do the install first, use a zip tie to secure the brake lines joint to the axle, and then take the truck to a shop where they can weld on the tab. its no bigdeal. the other thing is that depending on the exact configuration of your stock axle, there might be a teeny little bit of grinding you need to do for clearance on the new kit. if youneed to grind, you will know it right away, you cant miss it. but like i said, its maybe a 1/16 or 3/32/ of an inch that you might have to grind - you could do it with a drill and and a grinding stone in the chuck if you dont have a bench grinder.

Thanks Dave as a matter of fact i do have a welder and bench grinder so i think i will be able to do this and since i only drive this truck a few times a year theres no need for me to try to rush getting it all done in one day,But its definitely easier if you can get the ins and outs from someone thats done this before.I got the truck back from getting a new clutch yesterday and the tech said i might have to heat the stick and give it a bend because of the 7 inches of lift,no prob i also have a torch, the dual force clutch feels and drives great.

nothing like having all the right tools and gear around the house. I actually wanted to build a pit on my side of the garage so I can stand under the truck, but somehow my wife won that argument.... I have a buddy with a lift at his shop and can use that, but its nice just to stay at home.

Well Dave i gotta tell ya, I wouldnt mind a lift either, but you know what would happen if we had lifts,we would be adding and fixing stuff on our trucks, buffing out the undercarriage adding skid plates and doing a whole lot of stuff (that really doesnt need to be done)just to do it!!!Hey nothing wrong with that!!
