Message: i have a 91 dakota sport and i wanted a little noise to it. i am in college and dont have a lot of money. i went out and bought cherry bombs. the guy said it would take about 1 month to break in and get some noise. it has been 3 months and still nothing. so it is time to scap that idea. could any one tell me a close to cheap exhaust that i will actually get some noise out of it? i was also thinking about just strait piping it and getting rid of the whole muffler. would it be louder?

Message: find a buddy with a cutting torch or a sawzall , cut off the converter since the exhaust place probly wont do it, then take it to ur exhaust palce and have em put on 13/4 in straights on it .

Message: It will be a whole lot louder. As for the emissions in my state, which they are relatively tough in, they are supposed to walk along the side of your truck and look underneath with a mirror. They do that to check for the converter. No converter, no pass. That results in a fixit ticket, to get a waiver, that costs money anyway. My 3" custom Cat back Flowmaster system sounds a lot better than stock. It was only $225 installed including tax and will pass emissions here. It might be worth saving a little over a few months for. Just make sure the shop does good work before you drop your baby off there. After a couple of those stupid noise tickets, running straight pipes with no cats, it may set you back almost that much anyway. Good luck, Jim.

Message: you could alway's hollow out your cat's. It will then pass a visual inspection but may not pass a sniffer test... as for noise, let's hope the cops in your area are not too picky

Message: matt, I'm also a college student with a dak, and I wanted some noise. I went down to the performance shop and bought a flowmaster muffler for 60 bucks, install was 45 cause I just dumped it after the muffler. I figure that's about the cheapest way to go loud and still be legal.

Message: Hey, that looked like fun!
I want to get my exhaust done next year, there is a local custom guy who is an absolute artist. I noticed that you have 3" pipe, I thought that you weren't supposed to go over 2 1/2 on a V6, or is that just on the exit pipes?

Message: The guy that did mine is also very good.
He recommended a 3" pipe, and a 3" exit pipe.
although im going back soon to get dumpoff's
because the exaust scrapes the ground, and hits
the body when doing some off-roading. as you can hear on the first video up there.

Message: All I did with my dakota with a 318 V8 was cut the muffler off of the truck. Then routed 2 pipes out of the back. It not only looks good but it sounds great. It was cheap to do. Its pretty loud. I havent got any noise tickets yet though. It also passes my local emissions testing program.
