Subject: Ball Joint Recall IP: Logged
Message: Have a 2000 Ext Cab 4x4 with v-8 magnum. took it in for the ball joint recall. After new joint installed immediately had a squeling noise from the front when the first driving the truck. Took it back and service man said the drive shaft ball and socket need to be replaced (totally worn out). $638 to replace. Never had a problem until the ball joints were replaced. Obviously Chryler says not their problem. Truck has 78,000 miles on it. Seems odd to me. Anyone else with similar problems?

Message: pretty much its a thier word agaist yours. I say calmly explain your problem and ask what the service manager can do for you. If he says nothing, then call the chystler 800# and explain the situation to them and see if your any better off. Hopefully they will meet you halfway of help you out somewhat. If not have the repair done at another dealership, it sounds like this dealership could be doing something funny to your truck trying to make back money.

Message: Did this already. No such luck. Crysler Customer Service was no help. I need to look at a parts list diagram of the drive train to get a better picture of what the sevice man called the 4x4 front drive shaft. Still not sure what he meant by a worn "Ball and Socket" like end of the shaft.

Message: to me it sounds like the c/v joint. That would be at the end of your axle. I guess its kinda like a ball and socket. I just had to replace one on my 01 dakota. watch out though if that is what it is bc they made two different axles for 01 depending on the build date. and watch out too cause they are a bit pricey. I did a lot of hunting around and got a used one. Or you can send your broke one (assumeing thats what it is away) to be fixed for like 100 bucks or something like that. New ones where like 400-500 depending on what modle they called for.
