Subject: New to 4x4 Dodges; input needed please IP: Logged
Message: I just got a 99 Dakota 4x4 5 speed with the 5.2 V8. It is a Sport model and by the looks of the spare it was optioned out with the factory 31x10.50R15 tires. It currently has 265/75R15's on it which will be plenty tire for myself.
I checked and it has an open differential in the rear which is also the 3.55 ratio.
Anyone know of anyone who sells a gear driven LSD for this thing?
I had a 93 2wd Dakota with the 318 and loved it; I am really happy to be back in a V8 Dakota. The car I traded in on this Dakota had a helical gear driven LSD and it spoiled me. I'm not used to pulling out on the big highways and having my right rear tire spin in the gravel.
I'd like to stay with the 3.55's as my current in town mileage was 15.6mpg; though on the other hand, I'm most likely going to get a small(<5000lbs) camping trailer to tow with this thing.
The sticker in the glovebox said it is a 3.55 and below that it said "9." and the rest was distorted. I looked on the axle and that sticker is mostly illegible too. There is only an emissions sticker on the bottom side of the hood.
Thanks for any input
Josh
