Subject: Actual tire measurements. IP: Logged
Message: I was wondering what the actual measurements of peoples different sized tires at normal inflation. I have the Off Road Handling Group tires and wheels (265/70 R16 I think)and they measure about 29.5 inches. What are your measurements? Especially interested in 31s and 32s. Thanks!

Hmmm. Tough to measure on the truck. Looks like about 30.25 measured horizontally. More like 29.25 measured from the ground to the top of the tire. Those are 31 x 10.5 Wranglers at 34 psi, with 45,000 miles on them.
cheers,
-J.

Message: Lobo,
Check out both BF Goodrich and Dunlop web sites. They provide measurements for the tire sizes you may be interested in. (Your rim width can be a factor, also.)

Message: The 265/70/16s are actualy taller than 31/10.5/15s. My brother has the 31s on his 99 durango and my 265/70/16s are def taller. I think they're 30.8" when the 31s are really closer to 30.4"

Message: If your tires are Goodyear RT/S as mine are the size according to Goodyear is 30.7 x 10.5. This can be found along with other tire sizes on their site. Also have found through looking around that actual tire sizes vary a lot between manufacturers. Interco tire ( maker of the Super Swamper) lists actual size charts on their site at www.intercotire.com. Interco now has a Super Swamper SSR series for light trucks, with the same aggressive patterns, but in sizes that will fit on trucks without a lift kit. Currently looking at these or BFG A/T for mine, at least until I can get a lift kit. Hope this helps.

Message: I have the BFG A/T's on my 4x2 F-150 .. I tried to play w/ the 4x4's and I got my self stuck a little Toyota pulled me out then laughed at me as he was showing me how to go threw the hole.... I got further threw w/ my 2wheel drive then he did in 4wheel.. I ended up pulling him out. Sweet tires they aren't loud on the road even going FAST. But I think for a 4x4 in mud I'd go w/ something abit more agressive.

Message: I have a Lincoln Navigator 4X4. It currently has P255/75/17 Continental A/T tires. I want to replace them and maybe go a bit taller and wider. I have been talking with various tire dealers but they do not seem to know what they are talking about. It would seem that all tires vary in size depending on make and model. I want to have about 10-11 inches in wideness and 31.5-32 inches in height. I was thinking on going with P265/70/17 but am not sure this would give me what I am looking for. Any suggestions?

Message: heres how the metric measurment scale goes for tire sizes. for 265/70/r16s, they are for 16 inch rims, are at the widest part of the tire are 265cm wide. the 70 is a percentage. the tire at its tallest place is 70% of 265. i dont have a calculator handy so i cant tell what that is. if you want to know, just multiply 26.5 by 7. that will be the max height. and one inch is about 25cm, so, you can figure it out from there. Message: I have a Expedition 4x4 E.B. with a 3" body lift.
My tires are factory P265 70R 17.
The 17" rims are specificaly designed to provide a comfortable ride and I can't find a taller tire than what I have, 30".
I was told not much is available for a 17" rim and should go to a 16"... or wait a year or so for the manufactor's to see the demand.
I would like to go to a 33" tall tire on a 17" rim.
Does anyone have any data that can help me?
Thanks...

Message: Ynnhoj, there are now several options for 17 inchers because I've seen them first hand on Ram Off-Roads with 17's. I can't think of any specifics off the top of my head, but I'll try to get back to you on this. I know one thing though, they will be more expensive than 16's which are more expensive than 15's. The law of supply and demand. I'm tire shopping right now for my '01 Dak and leaning toward the Mickey Thomson Baja Claw radial in a 305-70-16. By the way, I think a 265-70-17 is a little taller than just 30 inches.

Yea, you probably are correct on 265-70-17, mine has some wear.
Thanks for your reply, I now know that I have some options out there that I didn't think I had.
If you can run across a name for the tire that would cut my search a lot. Most supply places here say's "what I want is not out there!"
Thanks again...

Message: I've run across a few. Just be prepared to pay top dollar as the variety is not there. B.F. Goodrich has an AT and an MT in 285-70-17's. They are 33 tall and 11.5 wide. Perfect for your application. Also Interco has the Super Swamper SSR and the Trxus now several 17's.

Message: Mopar,
I appreciate your information, and the price for one tire ranges $200.00 per B.F.G.
The 265/70R/17 is 31.7" tall...I think I'll go with the A.T. BFG, but I think I can beat the price somewhere down the road.
Best of luck with your Dak. shop 4 tires!

Mopar...
I priced a BFG 315-70-17 this tire measures 35" tall and exceeds 12" wide. It's an all terrain grip and very agressive looking tire.
Wal-Marts price for a set of four was under $900.0 by a few dollars.
Down the road from there I was given a price of $950.00.
I came home and went to the tire rack on the internet and priced the exact same tire and it was priced at $123.0 ea. w/a $20.0 del. fee.
BFG is the only maker of that size tire. I just wanted everyone to know "beware of the prices" check out at least 4-5 places before buying.
I almost made a $300 dollar overcharge on that set of tires!
