Message: what the hell are bead locks? kinda new to the whole 4x4 thing. im going to put 12.50's on an 8in rim and i hear something about bead locks...what are they? would i need them running them on a stock 15x8 rim?

Message: Beadlock rims are illegal for street use and if you don't know what they are, then no you don't need them.

Message: a "bead lock" locks the bead of the tire to the rim so you can run very low air pressure and not worry about your tire falling off.
the tire is secured to the rim by being pinched by a plate that bolts to the outside of the rim. it is kind of confusing, but if you look at any four-wheel drive mag, you will see a pic.
the only reason that they are illegal is because they have a tendency to leak air if the bolts aren't kept tight.
