 Subject: wheel studs?

Has anyone else broke off a stud on the rear axle? I got my rims changed, and whoever put my tires on last crossed threaded the lugnut to the stud. So when I tried taking my wheel off it snapped. If anyone has changed one, how hard is it?

Option 1:
Remove the wheel and the brake drum. Using a punch and hammer, drive the stud out pushing from the outside. Insert the new one(it won't go all the way in by hand) and use the lug nut to draw it the rest of the way in. Unfortunately, "Tire Busters" at some shops actually use the air wrench to start the lugs instead of their fingers. Since that wrench is also typically set at MAX TORQUE, they usually never know they have cross threaded it.
Option2:
Now what I did when a shop did that to me was to take my rig back and make THEM replace it...free of charge.
I also told them how lucky I was that I found this out in my driveway where I had a cheater bar to get the rest loose instead of my wife being stuck out on the highway somewhere!
It is generally good for their business to do the work for free rather than sending you packin' and let you spread the word about their shoddy practices. Bad news travels fast, and wheel lugs are cheap.
