Subject: 3.9 and Jeep 4.0 IP: Logged
Message: OK....silly question maybe.....
What is the difference between a Dodge 3.9 and a Jeep 4.0? I know they are both made by Dodge. Are there any parts off the Jeep 4.0 that can be used on the 3.9 for more performance or power? I am just curious and if anyone can help...let us know.

Message: First of all the 4.0 is a Jeep designed engine and a inline 6. That block originaly came out in the 60s.

Message: The Jeep 4.0 is based on an AMC (Rambler) design, from the 1960's, as CW pointed out. It's a direct descendant of the 258 cid engine used in Jeep and AMC models into the 1980's. It's also an inline 6, as opposed to the 3.9, which is a V-6.
The 3.9 is basically a 5.2 (318), minus two of it's cylinders.
