Subject: Lowering kit for 87? IP: Logged
Message: I was wondering if any aftermarket companys made a lowering kit for a 87 dakota.I dont want to slam it, just like a 2 inch drop and its gotta be cheap and not a lot of work. How do you think a black 87 long bed would look with 15 inch wheels and lowered about 2 inchs?

Message: I think it would looke good. Spindles in the front and shackles hangers in the rear is the better way to go. You can get spings and blocks for your '87 though also. I got my lowering stuff from sporttruckdirect.com

Message: I used springs in front and blocks out back. I am going to replace them with spindles and hangers. Keep the front end geometry correct and less bottoming out. The way it is , its a pain in the ass to get a good alighnment.

Message: i have an 88 and just put on my hangers today it took forever and i did it with no help. I set the hangers at the 4in. mark and have a top secret front hanger to get an extra 2 in drop. So if i wanted i could go 8 on the rear. you only use the 8 when you have removed the bumper. If you have the V6 genI the cheapest way to lower the front is go to you local salvage and get the coil springs off a 4 banger model and that sets you up real nice up front. Spindles are nice to if you want to slam it but springs run you 50 bucks and spindles 189 bucks so i went with the springs. Then guess what i decided to do i decided to put a v8 in so the springs from the 4 banger are on and i dont know if the springs will completely bottom out or not. So i will have to find out.

Message: There are no problems lowering an 87 Dak 4 banger or v6, I have a 87 on 20's with 2' springs in the front, and 3' blocks in the back. The only problem I have is that my blocks didn't come with the correct pinion angle so I have a little bit of rattle in the drive shaft. That is easily fixed by getting pinion shims for like $10. Total cost to lower my truck 2/3 was $110 that's including the springs and blocks. I also got dropped shocks to smooth out the ride, and new body bushings. I have absolutely no body roll at all. I'm about to bag it soon and put spindles on. Hope this info helps you out
