I have the Hotchkis coils for up front but don’t know if I should go with the Hotchkis rear springs for a 3” drop out back or a set of shackle mounts for a 2” drop out back. I would like for the truck to retain as much of the factory ride characteristics as possible. Also I was thinking of using either Beltech drop shocks of Doestech (I think that’s the spelling), any one have an opinion on these? I would like to use the Bilstein shocks but don’t have $85 to spend on each shock. Thanks!

Get the hotchkis kit.. you can't go wrong... get the springs.. save your $$$ and buy the bilsteins... it's a waste to get some crap shocks... where are you getting your hotchkis parts from? I'm sure I can get you a better deal... talk to Randy Pyle from www.worldwideperformanceparts.com he has by far the best Hotchkis prices... shocks are still $85.00 each.

I found a place local that has the rear springs in stock for $200 + tax. If I get the rear leafs how many plates should I use? I don't want the rear to set lower than the front, if anything I would like the back to be about 1/2" higher than the front.

I have all 4 plates and my rear end is about 1/4 to 1/2" higher... if you want to see some pic's I have some posted in the Gallery section under name mxblue23 I have the full TVS kit with R/T wheels and 275/50/17 tires.

For racing. Up front I went with Western Chassis lower control arms, I didn't want the hotchkis coils because they have a higher spring rate (stiffer). I kept my stock R/T coils, softer coils let the front lift easier providing more weight transfer. As for the rear I went with Hotchkis leafs (no spacers blocks or shackles) because the leafs have a built in correction angle for the pinion. You don't want blocks or shackles for racing, blocks will give the axle the ability to wind up the leaf harder, shackles will drop the truck but not change the pinion angle (blocks will do this to). You might want to get the pinion angle checked after the drop so it can be shimmed if need be.

If this is your driver that you race occasionally then forget about most of this.

Good point on the front spring rate... but with the Hotchkis coils being a progressive wind it still allow's them to unload pretty well, plus they are more resistant to bottoming, this was a concern for me as this is my daily driven truck... I thought a lot about the weight transfer and traction issues and came to the conclusion that the slight amount of traction gained from the stock R/T springs wouldn't come close to the handling performance of the Hotchkis... I am moving the battery to the bed to help this issue some... considering there are people running from 11.20-12.00 flat on just a Hotchkis kit and slicks I think it will be ok... I have 275/50/17's and after the Hotchkis kit and learning to launch the truck it won't spin the wheels unless I want it to... plus if traction is your main concern you need to get a 4 link and coil overs... for a daily driver Hotchkis is the best suspension around... end of story...
