Subject: Somebody tell me where the air is going IP: Logged
Message: Well I just got throught bagging the entire truck and I left the bags in the front laying on the ground so I could spray the fitting and check for leaks (brass compression fittings). I aired the front and rear up to 100 psi and sprayed away with soapy water, no bubbles and it held for a whole hours, so I put the truck together and the back holds but a hour later I have lost 20 psi of air up front. It pisses me off so I break it down again and check it, no leaks and air pressure holding steady, put it back together and it leaks down some more. I understand my truck has a v8 and its heavy but damn. The fourth time I broke it down I striped out 3 fittings in the front before I got the nuts so damn tight and so sealed up with teflon there was no way in hell they could leak. Aired it up and let it sit over night, no leak down, put it back together and dropped the engine on it, I start losing air pressure. I know my fittings, bags, and line is not leaking so somebody tell me whats going on before I go crazy. Oh and what is the normal pressure to get this bags to start lifting the front. I know I got the alignment right but even at 60 psi the front crossmember lays on the ground. When I hit 100-110 it looks like about ride height but everybody I talk to says thats too much air pressure for everyday driving. Please help me with some of your opinions.

Message: Jeremy, I drive at 100psi sometimes, But I only have a V6 and 75-85psi is good for me and the ride heigth is perfect. I had the same problem with the driver side bag. I ended up getting thread locking compound and it solved it. once you put the weight of the truck on there some air slips through teflon tape. Took me 3 days to figure that one out. My front crossmember is the same, very close to the ground. You have spindles, correct? That will bring it even closer. You should be able to drive normally at 100psi without a problem.
How did the front install go besides the leak?

Message: Well everything went well. I had to cut all the bumpstop off and the contact plate. I have drop spindles and the front crossmember sits its ass on the ground and leaves the frame a good inch off the ground. I took the inner fenders out and my tires touch the top of the outer skin now. I've run into more problems in the back then I thought I would. So you went just threadlocking compound and no teflon tape? I'm just worried if that doesn't hold or for any reason I need a new fitting or new length of hose, how would I back the fitting out? Maybe I shouldn't be using compression fittings. What did you use? Also we tacked the back in and welded two pieces of the notch in and then cut out the frame and finished welding the rest in. So when it went time to put the bed back on we noticed the frame was bent a couple of inches. I was like wtf.....I didn't see how that could have happened since we welded in the new piece first but we straighten it back but I'm still lost for words on that one. And this damn leak is driving me crazy. I'm really against threadlocker but is that really my only choice?. Oh also my truck doesn't start to lift in the front till 60 psi and really takes off around 80 gaining several inches all the way to 100 where the frame sits about 5 to 6 inches off the ground. This is with 2400 lb bags and i'm really disappointed with the lift. I just didn't trust the 2500's cause its was just a little big. My brake caliper already comes close to my 2400 with the wheels cut hard.

Message: Give me some background:
What type of tank, what type of guage (digital or mechanical{pneumatic}), your weather conditions, or basically where you live. I had a heII of a time pin pointing leaks, but I narrowed mine down to my guage. Also you will experience leak down during very cold temperatures. The fittings and such like to contract, so when the temps fall...so does the height of your truck. Now during the summer I never lose any pressure in my system.
With my V-8 and Shockwaves...I run 120psi in my fronts and they've never given me any problems. So with the regular double conveluted bags, I don't see how 100psi is doing any harm.

Message: One problem I had for leaks was I got the wrong t fitting to connect my valves. Another thing is did you put a insert sleeve in your hose before the compression fittings? Thats the only things off the top of my head

Message: Yeah I did the sleeve insert. I'm thinking about trying to stick the 2500's in there cause I know they will lift it up good. Its really cold here but its leaking a good 50psi overnight. I know it has to be the fittings, the ferules are just seeping and letting air out when I put the weight too it. I'm thinking about using them barb/flare fitting and taking a hose clamp and tighten the hell outta it. What do you think of that method? Oh and it does this with all the other connections undone. I'm running an inflate valve to the hose and hose up the length of the truck and to the top of the bag....no tank or gauges to leak and I know the inflation valve isn't leaking cause I can acutally squirt it down and check it while the pressure drops and air isn't leaking there.

Message: I ended up using the brass comp fittings, the same as you. CASDAK pointed out something good. Weather. when its cold, your fittings will contract, but I don't know where you are.
Use the regular teflon tape, and purchase some teflon paste from the hardware store. This did the trick for me. The paste will seal any leaks, but will break quite easy if you need to take the fittings out for any reason. I will most likely get the 2600's if I ever pop these 2500's.

Message: I run 2600's I run anywhere between 120 and 150 psi, I have a friend that run's over 200psi when he is sitting (truck looks like a 4x4) Don't worry about the pressure. The bags can take it.
As for your leaks if your compressors really heat up the air when they compress it, you will notice some loss when the air cools down in the bags, it won't be near the kind of loss your experiencing though.

Message: Yeah, Sorry I haven't posted in a while but I'm really trying hard to get it all back together. I finally found my problem. The fittings were leaking a little but I couldn't figure out where all my air was going. Well it was the lines, they were blowing out and leaking lots of air. I got the air line from the hardware store here in town and it had an operating pressure of 300 psi so I don't know why its junk so I had to order some over the internet and now its going to take like a couple more days to put all the new air line in. I went ahead and went with the viar compressor and a five gallon tank and smc valves. All I got to do is wait on the line. I'll try to work on the pics thing and see if I can find somebody with a digital camera.
