Subject: 1988 dakota 2.2 spark control maddness IP: Logged
Message: I recently picked up a 4x2 l988 with a 2.2 4 cyl. Is there a carb that will replace the stock carb and a mechanical and or vacume advance distributor that will drop in to replace the stock spark control system..It looks like an early attempt at an emissions control system and it contains a buttload of vacume sensors and switches connected to other switches and dissapering into an inoxious box labeled "SPARK CONTROL"...with the age of the truck the plastic hoses and vacume switches are of questionable quality...also there isn't any code reading so i'm having a hard time figuring out whats sucking and what's not...I'd like to change over to the tried and true distributor and carb..with no vacume system...anyone got any ideas..I think the 2.2 was used in daytonas and some other front wheel drive cars...my tow truck driver says they got 330 hp. @ 13,000 out of the 2.2 when they raced them...I don't need to get anywhere near that but would like my truck to idle and be able to trouble shoot problems...thankx
