Message: I need to find out if the info I have been getting is true. I was told that Jeep makes a 2.5 magnum that will mount in my Dakota... true?
I am being told that it will use stock motor mounts and use my bellhousing.....true?

Message: Well, I'm not quite sure, but if Jeep used Dodge magnum style motors, it should physically bolt up. However, if Jeep has it's own line of magnums, based off of the 4.0L I-6, then I think there may be a fitment problem, as the new daks are designed with a V-motor in mind. Truthfully, if you are looking to add more power to your four popper, an engine swap would be the way to go. I know everyone will probably tell you this, but here it goes. If you're willing to do the work to swap in a new engine, its worth it to go with either a 6 or 8 in place of your 4cyl. It would cost nearly the same to adapt the jeep parts to your dak, your gas mileage may actually increase with the V6, depending on your driving habits, and the aftermarket parts scene is much more friendly for the 3.9/5.2/5.9L line. Just a thought. Take care and good luck.

Message: We race a 1987 Dodge Dakota in a divsion called Super Mini Trucks, here in Va at Langley Speedway (langleyspeedway.com check out the rules) and we are the only Dodge running out there period. We have been trying to find some kind of sponsorship with Dodge, but to no luck!
We are looking to find some more hp this coming year, and we heard about the Jeep 2.5 magnum as a chance to find a bigger chance of performance parts and get us to the front!.

Message: Yes, I have read from others on a number of posts on this site that the 2.5L in the Jeeps is the same as those used in the Dak.

Message: That cool you run on old Generation I dakota. If Dodge Motorsports would get back into offroad racing, I'd be tempted to build up my truck to compete. But instead its Ford that is big into this, so we built a Bronco II.

Message: I believe there have been two different 2.5 motors in the Dakota. 96 and earlier used a 2.5 based off the old 2.2 motor. 97 and up use the Jeep-based 2.5 motor.
If you are looking for performance parts, aren't there a whole bunch for the 2.2 motor?

Message: Misfitracing,
You have to have the pic stored on the internet somewhere, like a yahoo pictures accout or something like that. Once its online, just type in here (replacing [] with <>):
and it will show up. Anyone can post a pic, not just members.

Message: The 2.5L in the Dakotas is the same one as in the Jeeps... I just happen to have a 2.5L 4-popper from a 2000 Dakota with only 38k miles on it, that is for sale.... along with the AX-15 5-speed manual tranny, too, also for sale...
I'd be glad to answer your questions about the 2.5L's.... there are performance parts available for them...

Message: The easiest way to tell if it is a Jeep 2.5L, is to look at the intake manifold.... it should almost look like a "C" in shape... plus the valve cover looks a lot like the Jeep 4.0L valve cover...
I can't remember right off-hand what year they went with the Jeep 2.5L, but I will check on it tomorrow at the shop...
Later!
