Message: 1. I ordered the Power Overhead Convenience Group and was surprises to see a small console with no sunglasses holder. Anyone else have this?
2. I also ordered the 5-spd Automatic. I was expecting to see O/D,D,3,2,1 but the truck only has O/D,D,2,1. I need an education.
Thanks

Message: My dealer notified me ahead of time that the console changed for '03. It is now a "mini" console which is about the same size as the standard map lights.
The multi speed auto has two 2nd gears, one for upshift and a different one for down.

Message: The transmission overdrive cutout is on the end of the shift handle (button on the very end). Essentially, you put the truck in 'D' and go. If you're towing or just don't want overdrive, you must push the OD OFF button.

Message: That's DC's big gimmick.
It has 5 gears, but only 4 of them are used, say if you stopped and then went WOT until the speed limiter. You'd get 4 different ratios in consecutive sequence.
But, if you were in 4th, and floored it, so it downshifted, you'd get the 2nd gear 'prime' it's called, then 3rd, and 4th.
So after all that, you had 5 gears, just only 4 at any one time consecutively.
I kinda like choosing what gear I'm in, and when it shifts, so does my wife.

Message: No the 2003 has a true 5 speed automatic. It has two over drive ratios but there is no way to lock out just 5th, you have to lock out 4th and 5th. Internally it has the same sets of gears as it always has, and uses some kind of pixie dust so engage different gears together to end up with so many different possibilities while shifting. If I'm not muistaken the new 545rfe not only uses the two overdrive but also has the 2 2nd gear ratios, one for down shifting and one for upshifting. It's really a 6 speed automatic in that case.
