Subject: problem w/ my 4x4 shifter IP: Logged
Message: when i shifted into 4 wheel high for the first time this winter in my '91 5.2L, the shifter went all the wat down to 4 low. don't know if it went into 4 low because i panicked and put it back up into 2 high right away. now the light on the housing doesnt come on. whats up? it hasnt slid back into 4 low since then, but i've been careful not to pull the shifter back to hard, and it still engages 4 high. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Message: To put it in four wheel low you have to be stopped, put the gearshift in neutral with the engine running and pull the lever into four low. Maybe it could possibly go in without doing this, but I never had any success doing this. Try putting it into four wheel low and see if it works. Just don't go over 25 MPH in four low. You also have to come to a complete stop and put it into neutral to take it out of four low.Sometimes I have a real hard time getting it in and out of four low and sometimes it works fine. If you can't get four low , it may be linkage or trans problems. Good luck.
