Subject: Pop from rear end IP: Logged
Message: Hi. I'll never get the dealer to reproduce this, so maybe somebody here can help: I live at the top of a hill. To get there, I turn left from another street onto the hill, crossing a water drainage "dip" in the process. Unless I slow to about 2 mph, there is a very loud pop from somewhere behind me every time I turn onto my street. I mean LOUD, like something broke, but no other problems. Can anybody give me a list of things to check? I have already tightened all the body mount bolts I could find, and I can't find anything that moves by hand (which isn't surprising since the only time it happens it in the above scenario). Thanks all.
Scott

Message: I was breaking my shock mount bolts for a while, (rancho 9000's set to firm) when i hit a dip and the the truck would come up, it would lift the shock off the mount then on the way down the shock would hit the mount making a loud "Clunk".
Sounds to be like you have a mount broken somewhere.

Message: Thanks for all the responses. The sound is definitely coming from the back, and I don't have limited slip. The shock mount sounds like something to check, though. Jaggy, do you mean the lower mount or upper? And what can be done about it? I have the stock shocks.

Message: mine was loose!
get under your truck and grab hold of them and yank.
you will be able to see if the shock bolt or mount is broken.
also I would take it to the dealer or a good mechanic and have them through it on the hoist.
get it up in the air and describe the sound to them.
if it a broken mount somewhere it should be easy to find.

Message: Thanks again. I guess I will have to make the dealer service guy ride to my house with me to verify it, because I've grabbed, shook, and tried to tighten everything I can find, and everything is very tight already.

Message: when you take it to the dealer they'll prolly try to tell you its something else and you'll have to pay but i tried to tell you its more than likely the CAB MOUNT.I had a forum about what the poping noise was before and it was the rear cab mount did you go to that website i told you to it tells you how you can fix it.Theres 2 things bad about dakotas and thats the rear cab mount and the rotors are bad about warping.

Message: My '02 Quad makes the same sound when
pulling into my angled driveway on a hilly
street. I'm sure it's one of the rear cab
mounts, but I've been too lazy to fix it or ask the
dealer about it.

Message: Mine doesn't do it going into my driveway but it does do it going to places in town and its quite embaressing when it makes that loud poping noise from the cab mounts.I'm to lazy to it looks to me that being cab mounts it would be a pain in the a$$ to fix.
