Subject: '98 5.2L head gasket IP: Logged
Message: I just bought a '98 Dakota that supposedly had a new head gasket at just over 30K. I am not quite to 34K and the head gasket is garbadge. I cannot see fixing it if it's going to need 17 head gaskets by the time it reaches 100K! Has anybody else had this problem? Am I screwed?

Message: Are you sure it's the head gasket, and not the intake manifold pan gasket? I haven't heard of head gasket failures (except when supercharged GRRRR).
But the intake pan gasket failure is very common. Whatever the problem, if it was repaired under warranty, then the dealer has resposnibility to provide a warranty for that, longer then your factory warranty. If it's an ongoing problem, they need to rectify the problem, even if the warranty has expired...
Talk to your dealer...
And if it's the pan gasket, it's not a big deal to replace.
